pretty feets leads to happy heart.

Home pedicures: inexpensive, pampering, make you feel pretty! Me: clumsy. Usually that means that I rely on professionals, and without professional attention, my feet become cloven hooves and that is uncomfortable for everyone. I am taking a break from professionals to save me some cash, and now--well, it's hammer toe time. The last time I was in San Francisco, though, I ducked into the Sephora and begged them to help me. The fabulous man wearing far more eyeliner than me (and looking way better in it) pressed Soul Owner by Philosophy into my sweaty palms, and swore by his own pretty feet that I would love it.

It's a super-rich moisturizer that also exfoliates the ugly bits on your heels and toes, and it tingles and it feels amazing and leaves your feet soft and lovely and smooth in just a few days, he told me, and this man did not lie. It's spendy for a relatively small bottle, but way cheaper than a weekly pedicure. And even when I don't polish my toenails and get them professionally honed, my feet are still pretty, and there I am, taking care of myself head to toe, just like you're supposed to.

Celebration

Birthday cake

The birthday cake is traditionally highly decorated, and typically covered with lit candles when presented, the number of candles signifying the age of the celebrant. The person whose birthday it is may make a silent wish and then blow out the candles. It is also customary for the person celebrating their birthday to cut the initial piece of the cake as a newlywed couple might with a wedding cake.

Birthday cakes date back as far as the Middle Ages when the English would conceal symbolic items such as gold coins, rings and thimbles inside their cakes. Each item was associated with a prediction. For example, a person finding a gold coin in a birthday cake would supposedly become wealthy; a person discovering a thimble would never marry.

Sometimes special candles are substituted for the many individual candles in the shape of a numeral. For example, on the fifth birthday, there may be one candle on the cake in the shape of the numeral five, and on the fiftieth birthday there may be two candles on the cake, one in the shape of the numeral five followed by the other in the shape of the number zero.

Traditions

In addition to parties, it is often common for people to receive gifts on their birthdays. There are also traditions of surprise parties. However, in certain circles,it is expected of the person celebrating their birthday to treat their party guests instead; this varies depending on the local culture and may involve party gifts or other gestures.

In most English-speaking countries it is traditional to sing the song Happy Birthday to You to the honored person celebrating a birthday. The Happy Birthday song tune is thought to be the most frequently sung melody in the world. Similar songs exist in other languages such as "Zhu ni sheng ri kuai le" in Mandarin Chinese, "Lang zal hij/zij leven" in Dutch, "Õnne soovime Sul" in Estonian, "Zum Geburtstag Viel Glück" in German, "Que los cumplas feliz" or "Feliz cumpleaños a tí" in Spanish, "Parabéns a você" in Portuguese, "Sto lat" in Polish, "Lá Bhreithe Shona Duit" in Irish, "Joyeux Anniversaire" in French, "Tanti Auguri a te" in Italian and "Iyi ki dogdun, Mutlu Yillar Sana" in Turkish. This song is a common greeting used on birthdays, along with cards and verbal greetings with messages such as "I wish you a happy Birthday" or "Happy Birthday".

lets know about this band.....
THE USED.

The Used officially formed in January 2001 but some members had played in previous bands since the early 1990s which helped lead to the formation of The Used. Under the name Strange Itch in 1994, the band consisted of Branden Steineckert on drums, Jeph Howard with the vocals, Joel Pack on bass, and Matt Brown on guitar. They released one self-titled album in 1998 and remained under that name until Quinn Allman took over guitar and Ashton Johnson took over the bass in 1999. At this point they changed their name to Dumb Luck.In 2000, an EP called The Naked Truth was released. Dumb Luck was short-lived and not long after the release, there was another line up change as Johnson had left the band and Howard took over as the bass player leaving the band with no singer. Tryouts for singers were held in Branden's bedroom, but they weren't satisfied with anyone they heard until Quinn remembered Bert McCracken from school and called him to see if he was interested in trying out. Bert met up with the other members and liked the music they wrote. After being given music that the band had written, Bert wrote the lyrics to what would become "Maybe Memories" and returned the next day with a newly recorded version of the song. The band welcomed him immediately. Bert wrote the lyrics to the songs they had, taking over the vocals, and the band was renamed Used. The name comes from their friends who claimed they were being used when contact was lost between them and band members due to them becoming more involved in the band.Although it may seem like these early bands were The Used under a different name, Jeph stated in an interview that the bands were so bad that they weren't real bands and didn't have anything to do with The Used. He did say, however, that if it weren't for them, The Used would have never formed because they learned so much about music and each other playing in those bands.

Love represents a range of emotions and experiences related to the senses of affection and sexual attraction. The word love can refer to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from generic pleasure to intense interpersonal attraction. This diversity of meanings, combined with the complexity of the feelings involved, makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, even compared to other emotional states.

As an abstract concept love usually refers to a strong, ineffable feeling towards another person. Even this limited conception of love, however, encompasses a wealth of different feelings, from the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love to the nonsexual. Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.

>>for me love is inner feelling and cannot be describe by words.

We have all been raised with ghosts in our lives. Cartoons, stories & Legends, Halloween, and deceased relatives that we wonder about. We all die so it's part of our heritage, no matter what culture that is. We know as far back as man has been writing symbols on walls that we've contemplated spirits from another realm.

Ghosts are more than deceased people. If they were just that, there would be nothing to talk about. Crossing over to the next dimension doesn't make you a ghost. Ịt's when you come back and let your presence be known among the living. They move an object, provide a fleeting glance, come to us in our dreams, and whisper to us though we may not be able to see them. They are souls that have something to show, do or say to us.
Why do they come back? What is so compelling to them that they are not in final rest where they are in the afterlife? I think there are many reasons. For some, it's unfinished business. For others, it's pure love. They simply don't want to let go. Something strong exists within them to want to come back to this realm to hold dear, expose or endure something strong to them. I think it applies to the living as well. Why do we cling to thoughts of those that have passed, even to those that are still living? I guarantee you it's for many of the same reasons they do. Just because we leave this dimension doesn't mean we stop being human in our thoughts and desires. What we are here is what we take with us. The same love, fear, and desires don't cease when we do.

I think ghosts are just those souls strong enough to break through the dimensions to express their will or cling to some past. There are several ways they can do this. One of the most common are those that have just recently crossed over. Their energy is still strong enough that it's possible for them to be seen and even communicated with just a few hours or days after their departure. One might call this their etheric presence. It fades shortly after the physical perishes but it too diminishes quickly, like an aura that no longer has a host.

Equal to the pull of love is anguish. More than not, a ghost is a person whose life ended abruptly and sometimes violently. This can be known as a haunting because they are haunted by a life now gone. The haunting is from their thoughts and their presence become testimony to that.

If you think about it, ghosts are just you and I. What will become of us when we move on? Will we come back? Will we want to? I guess we'll find out.

Actually,I'm not really believe about ghost..But it is interesting when I read or hear something about it..

Widespread use of electric vehicles can have significant impact on urban air quality, national energy independence, and international balance of trade. An efficient battery is the key technological element to the development of practical electric vehicles. The science and technology of a nickel metal hydride battery, which stores hydrogen in the solid hydride phase and has high energy density, high power, long life, tolerance to abuse, a wide range of operating temperature, quick-charge capability, and totally sealed maintenance-free operation, is described. A broad range of multi-element metal hydride materials that use structural and compositional disorder on several scales of length has been engineered for use as the negative electrode in this battery. The battery operates at ambient temperature, is made of nontoxic materials, and is recyclable. Demonstration of the manufacturing technology has been achieved. From this article,we can know the product of cars which is not using petrol anymore,so,from this product,we can save the using of petrol..

CHOCOLATE

Chocolate comprises a number of raw and processed foods that are produced from the seed of the tropical cacao tree. Native to lowland, tropical South America, cacao has been cultivated for at least three millennia in Central America and Mexico, with its earliest documented use around 1100 BC. The majority of the Mesoamerican peoples made chocolate beverages, including the Maya and Aztecs, who made it into a beverage known as xocolātl, a Nahuatl word meaning "bitter water". The seeds of the cacao tree have an intense bitter taste, and must be fermented to develop the flavor. After fermentation, the beans are dried, cleaned, and roasted, and the shell is removed to produce cacao nibs. The nibs are then ground and liquified, resulting in pure chocolate in fluid form: chocolate liquor. The liquor can be further processed into two components: cocoa solids and cocoa butter.

Pure, unsweetened chocolate contains primarily cocoa solids and cocoa butter in varying proportions. Much of the chocolate consumed today is in the form of sweet chocolate, combining chocolate with sugar. Milk chocolate is sweet chocolate that additionally contains milk powder or condensed milk. "White chocolate" contains cocoa butter, sugar, and milk but no cocoa solids (and thus does not qualify to be considered true chocolate). Chocolate contains alkaloids such as theobromine and phenethylamine, which have some physiological effects in humans, but the presence of theobromine renders it toxic to some animals, such as dogs and cats. It has been linked to serotonin levels in the brain. Scientists claim that chocolate, eaten in moderation, can lower blood pressure. Dark chocolate has recently been promoted for its health benefits, as it seems to possess substantial amount of antioxidants that reduce the formation of free radicals.

Chocolate has become one of the most popular flavors in the world. Gifts of chocolate molded into different shapes have become traditional on certain holidays: chocolate bunnies and eggs are popular on Easter, chocolate coins on Hanukkah, Santa Claus and other holiday symbols on Christmas, and hearts on Valentine's Day. Chocolate is also used in cold and hot beverages, to produce chocolate milk and hot chocolate.

Easy Ways to Catch More ZZZs

1. Make your bedroom a haven for sleep.
~Your room should be quiet and sufficiently dark, because darkness prompts the pineal gland to produce melatonin, the hormone that regulates circadian rhythms (your 24-hour body clock). Heavy drapes can help keep the light out, and a fan or white-noise machine can help drown out any annoying sounds.

2. Become a creature of habit. A nighttime routine can be very effective in letting your body know when it's time to sleep.
~Go through whatever rituals help you get mentally prepared for sleep. (Read a few pages of your novel, spend 5 to 10 minutes on personal grooming, meditate, stretch.)

3. Reserve your bed just for sleeping and sex.
~Avoid working, paying bills, reading, or watching television in bed. If you associate your bed only with sleep, you'll be more likely to fall asleep when you get under the covers for the night.

4. Tame your tummy.
~Going to bed either hungry or too full can disrupt your sleep. Don't have a big meal too close to bedtime or the digestion process might keep you awake.

5. Watch the caffeine. Too much caffeine throughout the day, even if it's not consumed right before bedtime, can contribute to fitful slumber. Once you hit 50, your metabolism slows, so caffeine may stay in your system longer -- up to 10 hours. Limit yourself to two cups of tea, coffee, or cola, taken at least 6 hours before bedtime. If that doesn't work, try cutting out caffeine altogether.

6. Tap the exercise answer. It's a simple fact: If you're physically tired at the end of the day, you'll sleep better. In a study from Stanford University School of Medicine, a group of 50- to 76-year-olds who had complained of sleep problems began moderate exercise for about half an hour four times a week. Compared with a similar group of people who didn't exercise, the more active group slept an average of one hour more each night, took less time to fall asleep, spent less time napping, and reported an overall improvement in sleep quality. Outdoor exercise is especially helpful. By exposing yourself to sunlight (particularly in the afternoon), you help prevent midday sleepiness and reinforce your body's circadian rhythms. Exercise at least three hours before bedtime.

7. Soak it up.
~Take a warm bath an hour or two before bed. Your body temperature will slowly drop after you get out of the tub, making you feel tired. Don't bathe right before bed, however, because it can briefly stimulate you enough to make it hard to fall asleep.

8. Drift off naturally. ~Investigate the benefits of chamomile, valerian, kava, passionflower, skullcap, catnip, or hops. These herbs can be taken in tea and other forms. A cup of chamomile tea before bedtime may be all you need to relax.
9. Don't toss and turn. If 30 minutes go by and you haven't fallen asleep, don't lie in bed feeling frustrated. Get up and do something relaxing, like listening to soothing music or flipping through a magazine. Or make yourself a cup of warm milk.

10. Buy the right bed.
~A bed that's too soft can cause poor sleep postures (which can also lead to muscle stiffness and back problems). If you're leaving a divot in the mattress when you get up, it's too soft. Replace your mattress if it's more than 10 years old, and buy one that's as firm as you can tolerate but still comfortable.

Media reports tell us that America is a sleep-deprived nation of workaholics who are sacrificing their health to achieve the overscheduled modern lifestyle. But we seldom hear about those at the other end of the spectrum who sleep well beyond the recommended seven to eight hours a night.

Some studies have found that sleeping nine hours or more a night may have a negative impact on health. However, the evidence is not nearly as clear as data showing that too little sleep (four to five hours) can lead to illness, accidents, and lowered productivity. We do know that depression can manifest itself through both insomnia and low energy levels leading to extended periods of sleep.

So is it possible to sleep too much? How can you develop healthy sleep habits? Here are some tips.

Don't Use Sleep to Escape
Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed, I can become a bit of a possum - curling up and falling asleep when threatened. While this isn't a particularly destructive way to escape uncomfortable emotions, it also isn't an indicator of being able to deal with them. If you are a "possum sleeper," I would suggest trying to sit through a period of discomfort using a different behavior, such as exercise, to lessen anxiety.

Don't Overdo the Napping
Naps have gotten a bad rap in the United States, but there has been a trend over the past few years to embrace the power nap (a fifteen- or twenty-minute refresher in the afternoon). Numerous studies have shown that these short naps are in fact an excellent way to sustain our energy and focus throughout the day. However, a power nap can easily turn into a two-hour deep sleep for some of us. This amount of sleep in the afternoon will leave you feeling groggy and likely disrupt your sleep pattern at night.

Don't Make Sleep the Weekend Reward
Those of us with busy work schedules often treat ourselves to long sleeps on the weekend. You shouldn't feel guilty about this, but I wonder if this behavior falls into the same pattern as overeating on the weekend and then starving yourself during the week. A consistent level of sleep throughout the week seems like a healthier option.

Don't Get Bored
If I don't know what to do with myself, I will often feel tired and sleep more than I think is necessary. The reality is that there is always something to do if we want to seek out activities, such as exercising or volunteering. Keep busy and you will feel less tired.

Good health is usually dependent upon moderation, and it seems, sleep is no exception.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom

This is a very interesting book teaching us to cherish our life and to live life a meaningful way. Although the title of this book has mentioned the word heaven and almost half of the content sharing about Eddie's journey to heaven,Mitch Albom write nothing about religion. This story begin with a man named Eddie, on his 83rd birthday, a war vet and a maintenance worker at the Ruby Pier amusement park, dies while he is trying to save a little girl who is sitting under a falling ride. The falling ride falls uncontrolled and hit Eddie instead of the little girl. The scent is too horible to be describe until everyone in the amusement park is shocked and stund for few second because they can do nothing to help Eddie. Eddie dies. When he awakened in the afterlife, he encounters five people which help him understand the meaning of his life. The five people include his friend, his family and the most touching is the Blue Man, which is a stranger to Eddie.Along the story line, Eddie flash back about his childhood and the Blue Man is the man who died cause by Eddie since Eddie is still a little child. First the Blue Man tells Eddie's about how the Blue Man dies has shock Eddie because he cause the death of the Blue Man accidentally and Eddie never know about that until the moment the Blue Man tells him this fact. The Blue Man tells Eddie that he didn't false Eddie for making him die. This is the first lesson the Blue Man teach Eddie - to forgive.Just like Eddie save the life of the little girl he didn't know, the Blue Man dies to save Eddie's life also. The sentence "The dying of one gives life to another" , makes me think for so long time how true this sentence is. Until now i still didn't got the answer. But nevermind, the most important thing is, after i have read this book, i'm learning and practising to cherish all i have although i still have thing that i haven't get yet.

Lets know about indie music scene...

Indie music scenes are localized, independent, music-oriented communities that exist in many countries, especially in the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. These have existed for decades now, in one way or another, but it is now commonplace for a city or town to have a punk scene, a metal scene, or many other scenes based on other forms of art. Indie music scenes became important in the early 1980s, when the rest of the country caught up with punk rock music from New York and London. Scenes are important in keeping indie and punk rock fresh and inventive, because it allows people from a wide audience to hear new independent music and contribute their own talents to it. Obviously, depending on what town one is in, the feel of the scene (and therefore the music that comes out of it) may change significantly.

Arguably, the 1980s indie scene in Washington D.C. was pivotal in changing the outcome of punk and indie rock for decades to come. Bands like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Fugazi, and Rites of Spring helped to shape the sound of underground music for years. Los Angeles was important around this time as well, producing bands like the Descendents, Bad Religion, X, The Circle Jerks, The Germs, and Black Flag.

Around the mid-1980s, as punk and New-Wave's mainstream influence died down considerably, there rose a couple of other important movements. Minneapolis was very important around this time. Bands like Hüsker Dü, and The Replacements would influence many alternative bands after them by broadening the scope of punk and hardcore. People involved in these bands, such as Bob Mould and Paul Westerberg still contribute to the music scene today. During the late 1980s in the Bay Area of California, bands like Operation Ivy, Green Day, The Offspring, and later, Rancid would take form to give a new sound to punk rock. On the opposite end of the country, Frank Black, Kim Deal, and Kristin Hersh were forming bands like the Pixies, Throwing Muses, and eventually The Breeders. These bands would influence the next wave of alternative rock, which due to the massive mainstream success of grunge became divided into mainstream artists and a new wave of indie rock bands who rejected the mainstream in favor of the indie scene.

Today i would like to share about a joke story, the story begin with a pair of chickens walk into a public library, find the librarian and say, 'Buk Buk BUK.' The librarian decides that the chickens want three books, and promptly gives them some. Without further ado, the chickens walk out.

Around midday, the two chickens are back and looking quite annoyed. One leans over to the librarian and says,' Buk Buk BuKKOOK!' The librarian decides that the chickens want another three books and promptly gives them some more. The chickens leave as before.

About an hour later the two birds march back in, approach the librarian, looking very angry now and nearly shouting, 'Buk Buk Buk Buk Bukkooook!'

The librarian is now starting to get worried about where all her stock is going. She decides to give them more books but also to follow them and find out what's happening.

She followed them out of the library, out of town, and into to a park. At this point, she hid behind a tree, not wanting to be seen.

She saw the two chickens throwing the books at a frog in a pond, to which the frog was kept repeating, "Rrredit Rrredit Rrredit..."...this is my story for today which is i read from the internet...

humourous short story to be share....

What's Prettier Than Freckles?
-- Author Unknown

An elderly woman and her little grandson, whose face was sprinkled with bright freckles, spent the day at the zoo. Lots of children were waiting in line to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who was decorating them with tiger paws.

"You've got so many freckles, there's no place to paint!" a girl in the line said to the little fellow.

Embarrassed, the little boy dropped his head. His grandmother knelt down next to him. "I love your freckles. When I was a little girl I always wanted freckles," she said, while tracing her finger across the child's cheek. "Freckles are beautiful."

The boy looked up, "Really?"

"Of course," said the grandmother. "Why just name me one thing that's prettier than freckles."

The little boy thought for a moment, peered intensely into his grandma's face, and softly whispered, "Wrinkles."

What I Have Learned
-- By Andy Rooney

I Have Learned that...

... the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

... when you're in love, it shows.

... just one person saying to me, "You've made my day!" makes my day.

... having a child fall asleep in your arms is one of the most peaceful feelings in the world.

... being kind is more important than being right.

... you should never say no to a gift from a child.

... I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help him in some other way.

... no matter how serious your life requires you to be, everyone needs a friend to act goofy with.

... sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

... simple walks with my father around the block on summer nights when I was a child did wonders for me as an adult.

... life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

... we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

... money doesn't buy class.

... it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

... under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

... the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

... to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

... when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

... love, not time, heals all wounds.

... the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

... everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

... there's nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies and feeling their breath on your cheeks.

... no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

... life is tough, but I'm tougher.

... opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

... when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

... I wish I could have told my Dad that I love him one more time before he passed away.

... one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

... a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

... I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

... when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life.

THINGS THAT TOOK ME 50 YEARS TO LEARN
-- By Dave Barry

1. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

2. If you had to identify, in one word, the reason why the human race has not achieved, and never will achieve, it's full potential, that word would be "meetings."

3. There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

4. People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you to share yours with them.

5. And when God, who created the entire universe with all of it's glories, decides to deliver a message to humanity, He WILL NOT use, as His messenger, a person on cable TV with a bad hairstyle...

6. You should not confuse your career with your life.

7. No matter what happens ... somebody will find a way to take it too seriously.

8. When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual who perceives a solution and is willing to take command. Very often, that person is crazy.

9. Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

10. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person.

11. Never lick a steak knife.

12. Take out the fortune before you eat the cookie.

13. The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we ALL believe that we are above average drivers.

14. You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests that you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment.

15. Your friends love you anyway.

Do You See People In Need?

One day, a diver was enjoying the aquatic world 20 feet below sea level. He noticed a guy at the same depth, but with no scuba gear whatsoever.

The diver went below another 20 feet, and the guy joined him a few minutes later.

The diver went below 25 feet, and minutes later, the same guy joined him.

This confused the diver, so he took out a waterproof chalkboard set, and wrote, "How the heck are you able to stay under this deep without equipment?"

The guy took the board and chalk, erased what the diver had written, and wrote, "I'm drowning, you moron!"

Murphy's Laws on WORK

Everything can be filed under 'miscellaneous.'

Never delay the ending of a meeting or the beginning of a cocktail hour.

To err is human, to forgive is not company policy.

Important letters that contain no errors will develop errors in the mail.

There is never enough time to do it right the first time, but there is always enough time to do it over.

If you are good, you will be assigned all the work. If you are really good, you will get out of it.

If it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done.

At work, the authority of a person is inversely proportionalto the number of pens that person is carrying.

When you don't know what to do, walk fast and look worried.

No one gets sick on Wednesdays.

The longer the title, the less important the job.

Machines that have broken down will work perfectly when the repairman arrives.

Once a job is fouled up, anything done to improve it makes it worse.

Success is just a matter of luck, just ask any failure.

RESIGNATION

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8-year-old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant.

I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks.

I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them.

I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.

I want to return to a time when life was simple; When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care.

All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.

I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.

I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So... here's my checkbook and my car-keys, my credit card bills and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood.

And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause....

gender of a computer....

French Nouns

A language instructor was explaining to her class that in French, nouns unlike their English counterparts, are grammatically designated as masculine or feminine.

"House," in French, is feminine - "la maison."

"Pencil," in French, is masculine - "le crayon."

One puzzled student asked, "What gender is computer?"

The teacher did not know, and the word wasn't in her French dictionary. So, for fun, she split the class into two groups appropriately enough, by gender and asked them to decide whether "computer" should be a masculine or feminine noun.

Both groups were required to give four reasons for their recommendation.

The men's group decided that computers should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computer"), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for possible later retrieval

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay check on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine ("le computer"), because:

1. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but they are still clueless

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you'd waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won!!

Top 10 Reasons To Smile

Smiling is a great way to make yourself stand out while helping your body to function better. Smile to improve your health, your stress level, and your attractiveness.

We are drawn to people who smile. There is an attraction factor. We want to know a smiling person and figure out what is so good. Frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away -- but a smile draws them in. 2. Smiling Changes Our Mood
Next time you are feeling down, try putting on a smile. There's a good chance you mood will change for the better. Smiling can trick the body into helping you change your mood.3. Smiling is Contagious

Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference?7. Smiling Releases Endorphins, Natural Pain Killers and Serotonin
Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together these three make us feel good. Smiling is a natural drug.8. Smiling Lifts the Face and Makes You Look Younger
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don't go for a face lift, just try smiling your way through the day -- you'll look younger and feel better. 9. Smiling Makes You Seem Successful
Smiling people appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted, and more likely to be approached. Put on a smile at meetings and appointments and people will react to you differently.10. Smiling Helps You Stay Positive

Hai i would like to share an article named SMOKING from the website:
http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoking

Smoking is a practice where a substance, most commonly tobacco, is burned and the smoke tasted or inhaled. This is primarily done as a form of recreational drug use, as combustion releases the active substances in drugs such as nicotine and makes them available for absorption through the lungs. It can also be done as a part of rituals, to induce trances and spiritual enlightenment. The most common method of smoking today is through cigarettes, primarily industrially manufactured but also hand-rolled from loose tobacco and rolling paper. Other forms, though not as common, are pipes, cigars, hookahs and bongs.

Smoking is one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. Tobacco smoking is today by far the most popular form of smoking and is practiced by over one billion people in the majority of all human societies. Less common drugs for smoking include cannabis and opium. Most drugs that are smoked are considered to be addictive. Some of the substances are classified as hard narcotics, like heroin and crack cocaine, but the use of these is very limited as they are often not commercially available.

The history of smoking can be dated to as early as 5000 BC, and has been recorded in many different cultures across the world. Early smoking evolved in association with religious ceremonies; as offerings to deities, in cleansing rituals or to allow shamans and priests to alter their minds for purposes of divination or spiritual enlightenment. After the European exploration and conquest of the Americas, the practice of smoking tobacco quickly spread to the rest of the world. In regions like India and Subsaharan Africa, it merged with existing practices of smoking (mostly of cannabis). In Europe, it introduced a new type of social activity and a form of drug intake which previously had been unknown.

The cultural perception surrounding smoking has varied over time and from one place to another; holy and sinful, sophisticated and vulgar, a panacea and deadly health hazard. Only recently, and primarily in industrialized Western countries, has smoking come to be viewed in a decidedly negative light. Today medical studies have proven that smoking is among the leading causes of diseases such as stenosis, lung cancer, heart attacks and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and can also lead to birth defects. The well-proven health hazards of smoking have caused many countries to institute high taxes on tobacco products and anti-smoking campaigns are launched every year in an attempt to curb smoking. Several countries, states and cities have also imposed smoking bans in most public buildings. Despite these bans, European countries still hold 18 of the top 20 spots, and according to the ERC, a market research company, the heaviest smokers are from Greece, averaging 3,000 cigarettes per person in 2007.

MY COMMENT:
Smoking very bad for health. It contain a lot of chemical which will led to disease..Smoking make people addicted easily..It usually happen among teenagers whom easily influenced by friends...So friends please dont smoke because its really harmfull to health...
Thank You..

How to love
Love is a strange thing. It can be the most amazing feeling in the world, or it can really hurt, but in the end love is something most, if not all of us, will face. While there are many different ways to define love and there are many different ways to love someone... but in this high demand 'I want the answer now' world we've compiled a general guide to loving which should at least give you a starting block to build up.
Steps
1. Say it. When you say the words "I Love You," do they carry it with them the desire to how someone you love them or do they carry it with them is it what you want to feel? And when you say it make sure you really mean it and are willing to do anything for that special person.
2. Empathize. Put yourself in someone else's shoes. Rather than impose your own expectations or attempt to control them, try to understand how they feel, where they come from, and who they are; and realize how they could also love you back just as well.
3. Love unconditionally. If you cannot love another person without attaching stipulations, then it is not love at all, but deep-seated opportunism (one who makes the most of an advantage, often unmindful of others). If your interest is not in the other person as such, but rather in how that person can enhance your experience of life, then it is not unconditional. If you have no intention of improving that person’s life, of allowing that person to be themselves and accepting them as they are, and not who you want them to be, then you are not striving to love them unconditionally.
4. Expect nothing in return. That doesn't mean you should allow someone to mistreat or undervalue you. It means that giving love does not guarantee receiving love. Try loving just for loving's sake. Realize that someone may have a different way of showing his or her love for you; do not expect to be loved back in exactly the same way.
5. Realize it can be lost. If you realize that you can lose the one you love, then you have a greater appreciation of what you have. Think how lucky you are to have someone to love.

FRUIT

Fruit and the memory
Fruit has a very positive effect on the brains just like carrots. So if you want to stimulate your brain functions you have to eat much fresh fruit and carrots (raw).
One of the substances that fruit contains are natural sugars. They stimulate the brain so we can think faster and recall information more quickly. There are many other substances that fruit contains which scientists think they stimulate the brain. How this works and which substance is responsible for which effect is still unknown as of yet and research is done at this very moment.
Students: improve your exam results!
We would like to tell you more about how students can improve their results by changing their eating habits before they have an exam. Fruit is the ultimate brain fuel!
You can actually improve your test results simply by changing your eating habits between waking up and doing the exam. The big trick is to consume fruit effectively. Have only fruit but as much as you want before you do your test and avoid the brain blocking foods white flour, refined white sugar, meat and dairy.

Check it out yourself once and you'll notice that you can think much more clear and faster if you have only eaten the right and light stuff before the exam. Afterwards you can have whatever you want!
Fruit
The effect fruit has on your brain is that it makes you think faster and recall information more easily. This is only an example. There is much more to learn about nutrition. There is also nutrition that has a negative effect on your brains.
Brain blockers
Here is a list of things that have a negative effect on the functioning of the brains:
• White flour, especially in combination with cheese. This forms a sticky substance in the intestines that costs much energy to digest. Much blood has to be sent to the digestive system so it cannot be sent to your head;
• Refined white sugar;
• Turkey; it contains a toxic element that has a strong tiring effect, it makes you sleepy;
• The combination of proteins (meat) and starch (potatoes). These two foods are burnt in a different way. It will cost your body more energy to burn them together than apart from each other.
Inform yourself
Not only fruit stimulates your brains, another type of food that does is carrots. Eat some raw carrots at least once a week to stimulate your memory.

Ice cream or ice-cream (originally iced cream) is a frozen dessert made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, combined with flavorings and sweeteners, such as sugar, and possible other ingredients. This mixture is stirred slowly while cooling to prevent large ice crystals from forming; the result is a smoothly textured ice cream. In the United States, ice cream made with just cream, sugar, and a flavoring (usually fruit) is sometimes referred to as "Philadelphia style"[1] ice cream. Ice creams made with eggs, usually in the form of custards, are "French" ice creams.[2]

Frozen custard, frozen yogurt, sorbet, gelato, and other similar products are sometimes informally called ice cream, but governments generally regulate the commercial use of these terms based on quantities of ingredients.[3] American federal labeling standards require ice cream to contain a minimum of 10% milk fat (about 7 grams (g) of fat per 1/2 cup [120 mL] serving) and 20% total milk solids by weight.[

production
Before the development of modern refrigeration, ice cream was a luxury item reserved for special occasions. Making ice cream was quite laborious. Ice was cut from lakes and ponds during the winter and stored in large heaps, in holes in the ground, or in wood-frame ice houses, insulated by straw. Many farmers and plantation owners, including U.S. Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, cut and stored ice in the winter for use in the summer. Frederic Tudor of Boston turned ice harvesting and shipping into big business, cutting ice in New England and shipping it around the world.

Ice cream was made by hand in a large bowl placed inside a tub filled with ice and salt. This was called the pot-freezer method. French confectioners refined the pot-freezer method, making ice cream in a sorbtierre (a covered pail with a handle attached to the lid). In the pot-freezer method, the temperature of the ingredients is reduced by the mixture of crushed ice and salt. The salt water is cooled by the ice, and the action of the salt on the ice causes it to (partially) melt, absorbing latent heat and bringing the mixture below the freezing point of pure water. The immersed container can also make better thermal contact with the salty water and ice mixture than it could with ice alone.

The hand-cranked churn, which also uses ice and salt for cooling, replaced the pot-freezer method. The exact origin of the hand-cranked freezer is unknown, but the first U.S. patent for one was #3254 issued to Nancy Johnson on September 9, 1843. The hand-cranked churn produced smoother ice cream than the pot freezer and did it quicker. Many inventors patented improvements on Johnson's design.

In Europe and early America, ice cream was made and sold by small businesses, mostly confectioners and caterers. Jacob Fussell of Baltimore, Maryland was the first to manufacture ice cream on a large scale. Fussell bought fresh dairy products from farmers in York County, Pennsylvania, and sold them in Baltimore. An unstable demand for his dairy products often left him with a surplus of cream, which he made into ice cream. He built his first ice cream factory in Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, in 1851. Two years later, he moved his factory to Baltimore. Later, he opened factories in several other cities and taught the business to others, who operated their own plants. Mass production reduced the cost of ice cream and added to its popularity.

The development of industrial refrigeration by German engineer Carl von Linde during the 1870s eliminated the need to cut and store natural ice and when the continuous-process freezer was perfected in 1926, it allowed commercial mass production of ice cream and the birth of the modern ice cream industry.

The most common method for producing ice cream at home is to use an ice cream maker, in modern times generally an electrical device that churns the ice cream mixture while cooled inside a household freezer, or using a solution of pre-frozen salt and water, which gradually melts while the ice cream freezes. Some more expensive models have an inbuilt freezing element. A newer method of making home-made ice cream is to add liquid nitrogen to the mixture while stirring it using a spoon or spatula. Some ice cream recipes call for making a custard, folding in whipped cream, and immediately freezing the mixture.

ice-cream??it is very delicious..everyone and every age in this world love it very much.

just now i'd read this article which is discussing on what not to do if we write simple English articles.

here is a lil' bit about what not to do :

Do not...

-Use bad grammar and bad spelling.
-Use bad English: This is Simple English, not Bad English.
-Use idioms (words or phrases that mean something other than what they say).
-Use words you're not sure about without using a dictionary.
-Write articles so short that they offer no useful information.
-Write in the second person. Good encyclopedia articles are never addressed to "you". Do not make statements about "you".
-Put links in titles (or other elements that structure the article). Try to keep the navigation and the structure of an article separate.

The Shepherd's Boy

There was once a young Shepherd Boy who tended his sheep at
the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was rather lonely
for him all day, so he thought upon a plan by which he could get a
little company and some excitement. He rushed down towards the
village calling out "Wolf, Wolf," and the villagers came out to
meet him, and some of them stopped with him for a considerable
time. This pleased the boy so much that a few days afterwards he
tried the same trick, and again the villagers came to his help.
But shortly after this a Wolf actually did come out from the
forest, and began to worry the sheep, and the boy of course cried
out "Wolf, Wolf," still louder than before. But this time the
villagers, who had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was
again deceiving them, and nobody stirred to come to his help. So
the Wolf made a good meal off the boy's flock, and when the boy
complained, the wise man of the village said:

"A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth."

Comment:
Never ever tells a lie as when you tells a lie, you will have to tell a thousand lie to cover the first lie and we will end up with becoming a big liar. Honesty is very important for a person. When we are working tomorrow, our reputation is the most important compare with our exam’s results. A person with no reputation carries nothing and is like a zombie as he is not trusted anymore. As an example, we hire dog to help us to look after the house is because dog is a trust worthy animal. The same goes to human being, if the person is not reliable, we have no point to give him jobs. Moreover, as in the relationship between opposite sex(relationship like husband and wife), we will also neglect those who had lie us before, isn’t it ? We want a trustable person to accompany us for the rest of our life but not a liar. The same goes to relationship between friends, parents, and also our siblings. In conclusion, honesty is very important for us to get the trust of people we love.

PS, I LOVE YOU by Cecilia Ahern...

it is a story about a woman named Holly Kennedy's life after her beloved husband, Gerry died...when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead. Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of 10 letters that will guide her, not only through her grief but in rediscovering herself. The messages are Gerry's way of informing Holly life goes on. The messages include various tasks and treats Gerry has left for Holly. This is his way of letting her know he will always be there for her. In the months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way: "P.S. I Love You." Holly's mother and best friends, Sharon and Denise,
begin to worry that Gerry's letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but, in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future. With Gerry's words as her guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into new beginning for life.

Gerry's actions impressed me so much...I really enjoyed reading this novel that I want to
read it again and again. After I’ve read this novel, I am now becoming a big fan of Cecelia Ahern...

there is also a film adaptation of this novel which was released in 2007 with Hillary Swank acted as Holly Kennedy...I’ve seen this film too...huhu. But I think the book is better than the film. so, I suggest you to read this novel as it is an interesting novel to be read you wont get bored reading this novel...believe me that you wont regret if you buy one.hehe.

CAN YOU KEEP A SECRET? by SOPHIE KINSELLA...

this story is quite funny...I’ve read this novel when I was in form 4...it's such an interesting novel...it's about Emma Corrigan's life,...
Believing she is about to perish in a plane wreck, Emma Corrigan babbles out her secrets, desires and idiosyncrasies to the handsome and reassuring man seated next to her. Having survived (Emma, with her own jangled mind, was doubtful of this), she shows up for work the next day only to be introduced to that seatmate. He's the CEO of the U.S.-based Panther Cola she's been marketing.

As she tries to recover her professional stature with her boss Emma finds herself enmeshed in a tangled web of her own weaving as she tries to get to know more about Jack. It should be noted that Emma has considerable help at her crazy loom from her flat mates Lissy and Jemima. At the same time Jack is trying to get to know Emma, but his thoughts are more business-based than romance-based. Emma to him is a fine marketing specimen of a young working woman in her twenties. This part of the plot wears thin.

The early chapters, in which Emma's flight from Glasgow begins a precipitous plunge and she begins her ill-considered true confessions, are quite engaging and spring out of a genuinely sympathetic perspective: so many people are prone to chatter when in shock. And the comic element of having Emma's business-class seatmate wind up being her boss is classic stuff.

But Jack's "betrayal" of Emma does not seem genuine. Perhaps it's a cultural divide, but it's difficult to believe that any television show, even one on "Business Inspirations," would allow a CEO to go on and on about the tiny details Jack reveals, from Emma's Barbie bedspread to her borrowing her roommate's shoes (not to mention the other information about her roommate --- mortification alert!) Jack uses the elements of Emma's character that have made her so believable as a business ploy --- but what ensues feels like forced farce.

Water-How much is too much?

A few years ago, my friend encouraged her father to drink large amounts of water through hot and sultry summer afternoons in India in a bid to sustain hydration in him — with solely good intentions. The next year, he was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy — which meant that his heart muscles were not pumping efficiently; leading to water retention and dilation of the heart. While the water drinking of the previous year did not cause the heart failure, co-existence of both events could have had a devastating effect on his health. Unfortunately, a woman from Sacramento, CA was not as lucky, and died as a result of consuming too much water. She voluntarily consumed about 8 ounces every 15 minutes for a whole day while controlling her bladder.

Water intoxication is a medical condition where the body is overhydrated, caused by consuming excessively large amounts of water. Water intoxication is also dependent on the rate of consumption of the water. When the body gets too much water too quickly, body fluids become to dilute, leading to electrolyte and mineral imbalances. The concentration of sodium, one of the most essential elements, especially decreases leading to hyponatremia. The water in the cells become too dilute due to which osmosis occurs, leading to an influx of water from the outside of the cells to the inside. When this happens, in theory cells might swell to the point of rupturing the cell walls. Other effects of water intoxication include water entering the lungs, pressure on the nerves and spinal cord, and swelling of the brain. Symptoms include mental confusion, fatigue, slurred speech, seizures and death.

This condition is mostly reported in athletes and babies. When athletes train for or run long marathons, they sweat, losing a lot of water. In addition to water, electrolytes are also eliminated via sweat. When athletes attempt to replenish this by consuming plain water, they are in theory further diluting their precious reserve of the salts in the body. To avoid this, experts recommend that they drink sport drinks that contain minerals and essential salts, and also consume foods high in salts during or after a very long run. Babies have low body mass as compared with adults, and so they require significantly less water than adults. They may suffer from water intoxication if they are given large quantities of extra-dilute formula or if they are given too many bottles in one day. People consuming certain psychiatric medications, or people who are on a liquid diet should also balance their fluid consumption and excretion with care.

If overhydration does occur, it may be reversed through:

Diuretics, which increase the rate of urination, thereby concentrating the blood
Intravenous infusion of saline solution
Other forms of palliative care and pharmacological intervention by medical professionals
Water intoxication is very rare and requires very specific sets of circumstances to build up. But it can occur. The general guidelines are to drink about 8-12 eight ounce glasses of water a day, unless one is in very dry weather, exercising, or taking certain medications affecting the heart and kidneys. Staying within these ranges will usually nourish the body without causing an overload on the cardiac and renal systems.

Sleep and consciousness.

One of the more intriguing aspects of human behavior comes packaged in an extremely natural and habitual act — sleep. Most of us take this routine of sleeping as part of the day, and slide in and out of it rhythmically, systematically. When we do, though, our bodies and minds enter this realm of unknown — theoretically, a passive state of rest for the body and mind. However, due to the many subtle and spontaneous reactions in physical and mental functioning, experts now term sleep as a dynamic rather than a passive state of being.

Sleep follows a circadian rhythm that is regulated by many factors such as light (in the external environment), fatigue and stress (within the body and mind) and the production of certain hormones such as adenosine and melatonin. During daytime, the presence of sunlight triggers production of hormones like cortisol and adenosine, which promote alertness and wakefulness. As recedes and darkness sets in, the eyes register the change in quality of light, transfer the message to the brain cortex — and this stimulates production of melatonin, which promotes drowsiness and tiredness. Interestingly, the optimal concentration of these hormones through the day and night varies significantly from person to person. This may explain why some people prefer to stay up and wake up late, while others prefer to sleep and wake early. Newborns usually spend 14-18 hours in a day sleeping, and this decreases to 8 hours a day in adulthood.

Sleep is mainly comprised of two stages — the non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and the rapid eye movement (REM) phases. The former is a state of lighter sleep, while the latter is a deeper state. The NREM phase is followed by the REM state, and this cyclical progression occurs about 4 or 5 times in each 8-hour sleep period. As the name suggests, there is no eye movement in the NREM phase, and the overall muscle tone is maintained. This is the stage that is achieved just before the act of falling asleep and also precedes the act of waking up. The REM phase is characterized by complete relaxation in muscle tone, and cessation of physical activity. However, the brain becomes much more active during the REM phase; the thalamus, reticular nuclei and hypothalamus in the brain especially show increased activity (as observed by studies recording an increase in blood flow to these areas). Dreams commonly occur at this stage of sleep.

This is where strict definitions do not hold good, where rigid theories don’t always hold true. When we are dreaming, there is a certain part of our mind and being which is aware and conscious, yet some other parts of the brain that are completely at rest. Experts suggest that various types of dreams exist, that range form the dreamer not being in his or her own dream (dreams of childhood) to one where the dreamer is actively reflecting upon the ongoing dream and making deductions and judgments on the events happening in the dream (lucid dreams). This is an interesting lead to the contemplation about the distinction between dreams and reality.

The more I ponder over this, the more baffled I get. The contrast in this state of sleep is amazing — while the body recharges, the mind is replete with huge amounts of activity. Mental activity, when it occurs during the day, tires and stresses the human mind. Yet, one wakes up refreshed even after a night of sleep filled with dreams. Advances in funded sleep studies, establishment of numerous sleep analysis centers across the country have revealed a tremendous amount of information about the state of sleeping; but many aspects of sleep still remain a mystery.

Tall Grass and Monsters

It was all just a trick on Missy.
She stood there in her little girl, 70s-striped multi-colored sundress, and fingered her lower lip as the wood burned between her ears. The three of us hunkered down in the tall grass, unaware of the thick humidity and dew-dampened stalks at the base of the tall, dense grass. The sky was never really blue in Georgia; it was usually a cadet blue or grayish hue from the water vapor hanging around in the summer. It would probably be too hot and stifling for me to do anything now, but then, at 12 years old, I lay in the grass and watched Missy wonder where we were.

The idea was Chubs'. He got sick of his little sister; she was a pest, and he didn't want her around anymore. I could relate; my little brother Ryan could be a pain too, and I half considered doing the same thing to him more than once over the summer. Problem was, most times he was all I had for company. Being outcasts and newcomers anywhere didn't make for easy friends and welcome company; doing it in a small, tight-knit community of private school kids who all knew each other for years made it even harder. Add in that we were from California, "land of fruits and nuts", and it made us even weirder. So we didn't exactly beat friends back with sticks. Ryan was better than being alone. Most of the time.

So when Chubs wanted to ditch Missy, I figured I could empathize. But Ryan and Chubs were kind of buddies too, so he was there when I spouted off that I thought we could do it.

Chubs' real name is Ryan too.he's a cousin of ours, portly and jolly, with a quick laugh and a slow brain. His drunk of a father and my drunk of a mother hung around and drank sometimes, while my dad just laughed along with them and dealt with her belligerence later, when everyone else left. He was always a ***** like that; no matter how bad my mom got, no matter how abusive -- with him OR with us -- he found a way to excuse it and wimp out. He never could stand up to her. So the "adults" sat in the house sucking down beer, and the heat of the afternoon was ours to play in, out in the large yards butting against the black-top of Ross Avenue. The deep lot stood separated by a patch of no-man's-land grass between our backyard and the neighbors'. When Missy went to the bathroom we scrabbled over the shoulder-high wire and stick fence and shuffled down into the high grass between the yards, just beyond the compost pile and the huge apple tree between the two houses on our lot.

The three of us slithered onto our bellies, with Ryan and Chubs on either side of me. They were both named Ryan, so using Chubs' nickname became more convenient. His old man called him that more than anyone. That's how we found out about it in the first place. We stared through the seed-topped grass and watched Missy swivel her head back and forth in the heat, looking for us. The confusion on her face set us all giggling and shushing each other while we tried not to give away our hiding spot.

Every time Missy stepped in the right direction, toward us, we shut up fast, held our breath and quelled the laughs. Ryan, not exactly a quiet kid, had one of the loudest mouths I've ever heard, and was keen to use it whenever he could. The only way to get him to be something like quiet is him knowing a trick was being pulled over on someone besides him. We laid still in the grass and until she moved off in another direction, calling out asking where "y'all" went, and then stood still and listened for the answer that didn't come.

I saw movement out of the corner of my soda-bottle-bottom glasses, and glanced over to my left at the bent, flattened grass around us. My breath caught in my throat when I saw it.

A spider.

Not any ordinary, spindly-legged, wisp of a spider. It was a Georgia spider -- robust and threatening. You could hear them click with clattering exoskeletons when they walked, I swear. You could see their facial features because they grew to B-movie monster proportions. Georgia spiders have a long, warm, bug-infested spring and summer season to grow, and they get nice and fat preying on small birds and kids laying in the grass. It moved fast as heat lightning as it scrabbled out of the dense undergrowth and moved over Chubs' hindquarters.

I couldn't believe he didn't feel it -- the thing was the size of a beagle and stomped its way across the husky kid's ass-crack-exposing jeans. I threw myself backward onto my hands and shuffled away as fast as I could, leaving an open space between Chubs and Ryan, who still stared and giggled at Missy.

That Volkswagen-sized arachnid skittered through that tall grass and over Ryan's outstretched legs before I found my terror-locked voice, but when I did -- too late -- I didn't think through my panic about what I said.

I screamed "Ryan, there's a spider on you!" at the top of my lungs.

See, the problem is, they're both named Ryan.

So, country-boy, Georgia-born Chubs hopped up onto his feet, laughing his insane, contagious, lilting laugh like a drunken hyena, twisting, wiggled his big body in the heat and tall grass, hands swiping over his back and shoulders to swat the spider away. My brother Ryan, city-born and sissy-raised, screamed like a girl on a county-fair ride and jumped up onto his feet, hands raking wildly over his shoulders and back, and squealed like a stuck pig for me to get it off, get it off, get it off!

It took me a second to process the sight of the two of them, writhing and shouting, one laughing, the other near tears, both moving independent but somehow as one -- one fat, hypnotic body, undulating like ocean waves of blubber, denim and stripes.

I burst out laughing. Missy, of course, gawked at their dance, too, laughed with me as the Ryans bounced and jiggled to loose themselves from the long-gone spider. I couldn't speak to tell them it was gone. All I could do was wipe my watering eyes and hold my aching ribs as wave after wave of laughter tore through me. I collapsed in peals of uncontrollable mirth, but made sure when I did, I did it away from that tall grass where clicking, beagle-sized spiders lurked.

To this day, I smile when I think of that story. There weren't a lot of happy times for me in Georgia for a lot of reasons, but that was one of them. I probably laughed for half an hour before I could tell them it was gone. I promised myself before I died I'd write the story down.

Now I have. But that was just one of them.

Food is any substance, usually composed primarily of carbohydrates, fats, water or proteins, that can be eaten or drunk by an animal or human for nutrition or pleasure. Items considered food may be sourced from plants, animals or other categories such as fungus or fermented products like alcohol. Although many human cultures sought food items through hunting and gathering, today most cultures use farming, ranching, and fishing, with hunting, foraging and other methods of a local nature included but playing a minor role.

Most traditions have a recognizable cuisine, a specific set of cooking traditions, preferences, and practices, the study of which is known as gastronomy. Many cultures have diversified their foods by means of preparation, cooking methods and manufacturing. This also includes a complex food trade which helps the cultures to economically survive by-way-of food, not just by consumption.

Many cultures study the dietary analysis of food habits. While humans are omnivores, religion and social constructs such as morality often affect which foods they will consume. Food safety is also a concern with foodborne illness claiming many lives each year. In many languages, food is often used metaphorically or figuratively, as in food for thought.

Almost all foods are of plant or animal origin, although there are some exceptions. Foods not coming from animal or plant sources include various edible fungi, such mushrooms. Fungi and ambient bacteria are used in the preparation of fermented and pickled foods such as leavened bread, alcoholic drinks, cheese, pickles, and yogurt. Many cultures eat seaweed, a protist, or blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) such as Spirulina.Additionally, salt is often eaten as a flavoring or preservative, and baking soda is used in food preparation. Both of these are inorganic substances, as is water, an important part of human diet.

UMP was established as a public technical university by the Malaysian government on 16 February 2002. Incorporated under the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 by the Royal Decree of His Majesty the Yang DiPertuan Agong, Kolej Universiti Kejuruteran & Teknologi Malaysia (KUKTEM) was set up as a competency-based technical university, specializing in engineering and technology. The University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia currently operates on a temporary campus in Gambang, Pahang. The temporary campus was formerly an industrial complex owned by MEC. The university's permanent campus is located in Pekan, which is currently still under construction..

On 8 October, 2006, the Malaysian government has agreed to rename KUKTEM to Universiti Malaysia Pahang. The change of name is because the words 'university college' (Kolej Universiti) tend to give impression to the public that KUKTEM is a "lower standard" institution of higher education compared to other universities such as Universiti Malaya.[1] Many employers also tend to think that KUKTEM graduates are not competent enough as they graduated from a university college and not a full university. Therefore, the change of name is finally granted by the Malaysian government for the sake of the graduates and also to correct the wrong mindset of the public towards the university colleges in Malaysia.

The university consists of 17 departments/units and 7 faculties (some are known as center).

13 Things Your Bank Won't Tell You
1. Just because you deposited a check today doesn't mean you can start living it up tomorrow. It takes us three days on average to post the money to your account. (And why should we hurry? If you bounce a check, we collect around $30.)
2. Yes, we know the line is long and only one teller window is open, but no, the guy in the cubicle can't come over to help out. He may not be allowed to do a teller's job.

3. Call or visit in person to resolve a problem. Filling out online forms will usually get you the by-the-book reply, but a rep will often forgive a fee over the phone so we can all just get on with our lives.

4. Unless you're Wolfgang Puck, our loan officers have pretty much decided before you walk in that you're not getting a loan for your dream bistro. But they'll let you apply for one anyway. We're not crazy about lending to nonprofits and houses of worship either. We don't want the bad publicity when we go after them.

5. Our tellers routinely press you into opening new accounts because their jobs depend on it. Banks hire “mystery” customers who secretly test whether a teller is cross-selling services.

6. Don't blame us -- it's not our fault you can't control your spending. "The bank didn't make you swipe your card or write a check that you didn't have money for," says one teller in Akron, Ohio.

7. Postdating a check rarely works. With stacks of deposits to process, we look at account names, not dates. If the check bounces, you're liable.

8. Please don't haul in plastic bags of loose change. We really don't have the time or manpower to count it. Ask for free wrappers and bring in rolled coins next time.

9. Keep receipts for every ATM transaction -- and please don't feed cash directly into the machine without first putting it into an envelope (yes, people actually do this).

10. A consumer's brain registers an immediate "Ouch!" whenever he's hit with an itemized penalty, such as a bounced-check fee, so most people keep a much higher balance in their checking accounts than necessary, says personal-finance writer Jason Zweig. "Banks make a ton of money off this mental quirk since they would have to pay interest on the money if we left it in our savings accounts, where it belongs."

11. Banks don't always promote their checking accounts with the highest interest rate. Why tell you about those when you're already willing to sign up for an account that pays less?

12. A bank has the right to pay itself back out of your next deposit for any fees or overdraft loans that you owe.

13. Sorry, we can't afford to give out free toasters anymore to new customers. Business is brutal.

13 Things Your Computer Person Won’t Tell You
1. Turn it off, turn it back on. “Nine times out of ten, rebooting your computer-and any equipment that connects to it-will solve the problem,” says Aaron Schildkraut, who owns a home tech-support service in the New York tristate area.

2. Just because we're “buddies” at work, don't expect me to come running every time you've got a problem. I've got a slew of IT problems to fix.

3. We're like Santa: We know if you've been bad or good. Fessing up to what really happened right before the system crashed is going to save time-and I'm going to figure it out anyway.
4. Use “strong” passwords. Geek Squad agent Derek Meister suggests combining letters and numbers-but not your birth date-to create a “base” password, and adding a unique suffix for each site you use. If your base password is your spouse's initials and
your anniversary date (say, SP061789), your Amazon password might be “SP061789AM.”

5. Make sure you have current antivirus and anti-spyware protection, and set it to update at least once a day and run a full-system scan at least once a week.

6. There's no free lunch. Downloading free music, movies, and games from file-sharing sites can open holes in your system for others to exploit. Play it safe and use established services like Rhapsody, iTunes, and Netflix.

7. Remember: Public Wi-Fi is public. If you don't have a compelling reason to check your e-mail or bank account while sipping a latte at the mall, don't do it. While you're on a public network, even one that's encrypted, a nearby hacker can capture your passwords.

8. Give it a rest. Turning off your computer when it's not in use saves energy and clears out the RAM, or temporary memory, which would otherwise slow your machine over time.

9. If you can't get online, call your Internet service provider first. Connection problems can often be checked and fixed-free.

10. If you want to see less of me, get a Mac. That's what we use. “Macs are actually a little bad for my business,” says Schildkraut.

11. No, you can't use your cell phone to pop popcorn. Next time an Internet rumor drops into your inbox, don't just pass it on-check it out at snopes.com first.

12. Sometimes we talk about you-in code. If you hear “HKI error” (for human-keyboard interface) or “PEBCAK” (problem exists between chair and keyboard), we're insulting you.

13. If you don't understand me, I'm not doing my job. Confusing tech jargon is a sign of insecurity, not intelligence.

How Boys and Girls Learn Differently
By Carol Kaufmann

At a primary school Manning, a small town 65 miles east of Columbia, South Carolina, second grade teachers Holly Garneau and Anna Lynne Gamble are convinced that segregating elementary-age boys and girls produces immediate academic improvement—in both genders. Eager to capitalize on their past progress, the two created a teaching plan for the upcoming semester. The kids will be in a coed environment for homeroom, lunch, and recess, then divide up for four hours each day to learn their math, science, reading and social studies. But first, Garneau and Gamble need the parents’ approval. That’s where David Chadwell, South Carolina’s coordinator of single gender education, comes in.
He doesn’t argue the politics of the issue. He emphasizes the science “These (learning) differences are tendencies, not absolutes. That is important,” he tells the group. “However, we can teach boys and girls based on what we now know because of medical technology.”

Just as he’s explained to hundreds of parents and teachers across the state, Chadwell patiently walks the Manning crowd through how boys and girls perceive the world.

“They see differently. Literally,” he begins. Male and female eyes are not organized in the same way, he explains. The composition of the male eye makes it attuned to motion and direction. “Boys interpret the world as objects moving through space,” he says. “The teacher should move around the room constantly and be that object.”

The male eye is also drawn to cooler colors like silver, blue, black, grey, and brown. It’s no accident boys tend to create pictures of moving objects like spaceships, cars, and trucks in dark colors instead of drawing the happy colorful family, like girls in their class.

The female eye, on the other hand, is drawn to textures and colors. It’s also oriented toward warmer colors—reds, yellow, oranges—and visuals with more details, like faces. To engage girls, Chadwell says, the teacher doesn’t need to move as much, if at all. Girls work well in circles, facing each other. Using descriptive phrases and lots of color in overhead presentations or on the chalkboard gets their attention.

Parents tilt their heads, curious to hear more.

Boys and girls also hear differently. “When someone speaks in a loud tone, girls interpret it as yelling,” Chadwell says. “They think you’re mad and can shut down.” Girls have a more finely tuned aural structure; they can hear higher frequencies than boys and are more sensitive to sounds. He advises girls’ teachers to watch the tone of their voices. Boys’ teachers should sound matter of fact, even excited. Chadwell’s voice sounds much more forceful as he explains.

Chadwell continues. A boy’s autonomic nervous system causes them to be more alert when they’re standing, moving, and the room temperature is around 69 degrees. Stress in boys, he says, tends to increase blood flow to their brains, a process that helps them stay focused. This won’t work for girls, who are more focused seated in a warmer room around 75 degrees. Girls also respond to stress differently. When exposed to threat and confrontation, blood goes to their guts, leaving them feeling nervous or anxious.

“Boys will rise to a risk and tend to overestimate their abilities,” he says. Teachers can help them by getting them to be more realistic about results,” he says. “Girls at this age shy away from risk, which is exactly why lots of girls’ programs began in the private sector. Teachers can help them learn to take risks in an atmosphere where they feel confident about doing so.”

It’s an aha! moment for many of the parents, who seem to understand.

These differences can be accommodated in the classroom, Chadwell adds. “Single gender programs are about maximizing the learning.”

Prevent Colds and the Flu

Keeping the Germs Away
Flu season is October through early spring, and February is often the peak month. Chances are, when you're burrowed under the covers with a box of tissues by your bedside, you turn even greener with envy thinking of those people who seem to never get sick. Want to be one of them?

We can't promise you'll never get hit with another cold or suffer another bout of the flu, but you can increase your odds of staying well with these strategies. If you do get sick, we've also included some tips for getting better faster.

While colds won't kill you, they can weaken your immune system to the point that other, more serious, germs can take hold in your body. Just think how many times your cold turned into bronchitis or a sinus infection. And given that the average American adult suffers two to three colds a year, that's a lot of opportunities for serious illness -- and just as many to prevent one! There's even more incentive to prevent the flu: Every year in the United States about 200,000 people are hospitalized and 36,000 die from the flu or its complications.

1. Wash your hands and wash them often. The Naval Health Research Center conducted a study of 40,000 recruits who were ordered to wash their hands five times a day. The recruits cut their incidence of respiratory illnesses by 45 percent.

2. Wash your hands twice every time you wash them. When Columbia University researchers looked for germs on volunteers' hands, they found one handwashing had little effect, even when using antibacterial soap. So wash twice if you're serious about fending off colds.

3. Use this hand-drying strategy in public restrooms. Studies find a shockingly large percentage of people fail to wash their hands after using a public restroom. And every single one of them touches the door handle on the way out. So after washing your hands, use a paper towel to turn off the faucet. Use another paper towel to dry your hands, then open the door with that paper towel as a barrier between you and the handle. It sounds nuts, but it's an actual recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control to protect you from infectious diseases like cold and flu.

4. Carry hand sanitizer with you. Colds are typically passed not from coughing or kissing (although those are two modes of transmission) but from hand-to-hand or hand-to-object contact, since most cold viruses can live for hours on objects. You then put your hand in or near your mouth or nose, and voilà! You're sick. Carry hand sanitizer gel or sanitizing towelettes with you and you can clean your hands anytime, even if the closest water supply is 100 miles away. It works. One study of absenteeism due to infection in elementary schools found schools using the gel sanitizer had absentee rates from infection nearly 20 percent lower than those using other hand-cleaning methods.

5. Use your knuckle to rub your eyes. It's less likely to be contaminated with viruses than your fingertip. This is particularly important given that the eye provides a perfect entry point for germs, and the average person rubs his eyes or nose or scratches his face 20-50 times a day, notes Jordan Rubin, Ph.D., author of the book The Maker's Diet.

6. Run your toothbrush through the microwave on high for 10 seconds to kill germs that can cause colds and other illnesses. You think it gets your teeth clean -- and it does. But once you're done brushing, your toothbrush is a breeding ground for germs. Sterilize it in the microwave before you use it, or store it in hydrogen peroxide (rinse well before using), or simply replace it every month when you change the page on your calendar and after you've had a cold.

Prevention Is Key
7. Get a flu shot every fall. The Centers for Disease Control recommends flu shots for anyone 50 years old or older, residents of long-term care facilities, people of any age who have chronic medical problems (heart or lung disease, asthma, diabetes, etc.), pregnant women, and people whose immune systems have been weakened (by cancer, AIDS, or other causes). Also, people who work or live with a high-risk person should get a flu shot so they don't spread the flu. Of course, anyone who just wants to avoid the flu should also get one. Hate shots? Ask for the nasal spray vaccine.

8. Stop blaming yourself when things go wrong at work. Believe it or not, blaming yourself makes you more likely to catch a cold! At least, that's what researchers found when they studied more than 200 workers over three months. Even those who had control over their work were more likely to begin sneezing if they lacked confidence or tended to blame themselves when things went wrong. Researchers expect such attitudes make people more stressed on the job, and stress, as you know, can challenge your immune system.

9. Put a box of tissues wherever people sit. Come October, buy a 6- or 12-pack of tissue boxes and strategically place them around the house, your workplace, your car. Don't let aesthetics thwart you. You need tissues widely available so that anyone who has to cough or sneeze or blow his nose will do so in the way least likely to spread germs.

10. Leave the windows in your house open a crack in winter. Not all of them, but one or two in the rooms in which you spend the most time. This is particularly important if you live in a newer home, where fresh circulating air has been the victim of energy efficiency. A bit of fresh air will do wonders for chasing out germs.

The word cartoon has various meanings, based on several very different forms of visual art and illustration. The term evolved over time. The original meaning was in fine art, and there cartoon meant a preparatory drawing for a piece of art such as painting or tapestry.
The somewhat more modern meaning was that of humorous illustrations in magazines and newspapers. Even more recently there are now several contemporary meanings, including creative visual work for print media ,for electronic media, and even animated films and animated digital media.
When a word cartoon is applied to print media, it most often refers to a humorous single-panel drawing or gag cartoon, most of which have captions and do not use speech balloons. The word cartoon is not often used to refer to a comic strip. The artists who draw cartoons are known as cartoonists.
Because of the stylistic similarities between comic strips and early animated movies, "cartoon" came to refer to animation, and this is the sense in which "cartoon" is most commonly used today.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS: Local councils should lead

Look around the now situation, the health risks that come with garbage are numerous. So public should awareness of destruction to the environment should be heightened. Through the report of the solid waste and public cleaning management bill, seen the enviromental problem is more serious day by day. Malaysia also having this problem because we might see some people they like throw plastic bags and used tissue paper out of their car windows. Some even throw rubbish into the monsoon drain in front of their house rather than in their rubbish bin. Therefor, we should educate our young by getting schoolchildren involved in recycling and environmental awareness projects. Sincerly, The councils can also encourage households to leave garden waste such as cuttings and fallen leaves in large reusable heavy-duty garden refuse bags, again provided free to each household. Local councils can collect these garden trimmings every week or fortnightly to be turned into composting material on a large scale. It can be sold to the public at garden centres and nurseries. Or even can set up the recycling centres for people to dump recyclable materials. These facilities should be within easy reach of town centres, and be equipped with many industrial-sized containers for people to deposit paper, plastic, old clothes, glass bottles, old computers, unwanted household items or even garden waste. As conclusion do not just think about the enviroment but what is important is our co-operation action to solve the problem.

lightning

Lightning is an atmospheric discharge of electricity, which typically occurs during thunderstorms, and sometimes during volcanic eruptions or dust storms. In the atmospheric electrical discharge, a leader of a bolt of lightning can travel at speeds of 60,000 m/s, and can reach temperatures approaching 30,000 °C (54,000 °F), hot enough to fuse silica sand into petrified lightning, known scientifically as glass channels or fulgurites which are normally hollow and can extend some distance into the ground. There are some 16 million lightning storms in the world every year. For an American, the chance of being struck by lightning is approximately 1 in 576,000 and the chance of actually being killed by lightning is approximately 1 in 2,320,000.

Lightning can also occur within the ash clouds from volcanic eruptions, or can be caused by violent forest fires which generate sufficient dust to create a static charge.

How lightning initially forms is still a matter of debate: Scientists have studied root causes ranging from atmospheric perturbations (wind, humidity, friction, and atmospheric pressure) to the impact of solar wind and accumulation of charged solar particles.Ice inside a cloud is thought to be a key element in lightning development, and may cause a forcible separation of positive and negative charges within the cloud, thus assisting in the formation of lightning.

Last week i read an article about Gua Niah.It tell me more about Gua Niah history.Niah Caves is located within the district of Miri in Sarawak, Malaysia. Part of Niah National Park, the main cave, Niah Great Cave, is located in Gunung Subis and is made up of several voluminous, high-ceilinged chambers. The Great Cave lies in a large limestone block, about a kilometer long in general north to south direction and about half a kilometer wide, that is detached from the main Gunung Subis complex, by a valley between about 150 to 200 meters wide. The main Gunung Subis complex rises to about 394 meters above sea level at its highest point. The whole "Gunung Subis Limestone Complex" lies some 17 kilometers inland from the South China Sea coast and about 65 kilometers south west of the town Miri. It is roughly heart shaped measuring five kilometers from its northern tip to the south and four kilometers across. The Gunung Subis is surrounded by a low countryside with gentle hills from which the small limestone massiv and its smaller detached blocks rise rather appruptly out of the jungle, some with cliffs over 100 meters high. Though it is not an extensive cave system compared to others in Sarawak, it has been estimated to cover some 10 hectares and the roof rises to about 75 meters above the cave floor in some places. In geological terms, the limestones are part of the Subis Formation. This is dated to some 20 to 16 million years ago during the Early Miocene.

The cave is an important prehistorical site where human remains dating to 40,000 years have been found. This is the oldest recorded human settlement in East Malaysia. Painted Cave, situated in a much smaller limestone block of its own, some 150 meters from the Great Cave block's south eastern tip, has rock paintings dated as 1,200 years old. The caves are also well known for the birds' nest (Swiftlet) industry. It is a popular tourist destination in Sarawak.

healthy lifestyle....
by read this article i got several tips on how to maintain helthy lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle makes everything much easier to deal with, because you are in a good frame of mind, and you feel well physically. A healthy lifestyle is not just about eating a healthy diet, or exercising regularly. I think the most important thing in living a healthy lifestyle is everything in moderation. You need to eat healthy, exercise, and find a healthy balance between work and play.

Eating healthy is very important to living a healthy lifestyle, because your diet is what fuels your life. If you are constantly eating junk food and drinking alcohol, then you are causing physical damage to your body. This damage will cause you to have a lack of energy and you will not be able to do the things that you want to do.

Exercise is also very important to live a healthy lifestyle, because if you are out of shape you will not feel well or be able to do the things that you want to do. When you exercise you release different chemicals into your bloodstream that make you feel better. Exercising can be a big help getting you through a tough day, because it can give you a good head start to the day, or a pick me up after a bad day.

I think the most important way to live a healthy lifestyle is to find and maintain a balance between work and play. If you work too much then your stress level will be very high, and your health and happiness will decline very quickly. However if you play too much, your stress will also be very high, because you are going to have to worry about how you are going to pay your bills. If you strike a balance between the two then you can make enough money to pay your bills, but still have enough fun that you are able to relieve your stress. If you pay attention to these things in your life, then you will be able to live a healthy lifestyle.

Manchester United were founded in 1878, when a group of railway carriage and wagon workers formed a team in the north-east of Manchester. In those days, the team wore green and yellow coloured shirts, and went by the name of "Newton Heath" (The team officially adopted "Manchester United FC" in 1902). The amateur players at Newton Heath managed to draw as many as two-thousand spectators a game, and competed in the Lancashire and Manchester leagues with limited success.

When the leagues were formed in 1888, Newton Heath were not elected into the top division in England. Instead, they played in the "Football alliance". The team eventually earned entry to the first division but only due to the fact that they were extending the number of teams in the league.

Gaining top flight football didn't help the fortunes of Newton Heath - they simply lost even more games now that they were playing higher class opposition and the team struggled against relegation in the 1890's. Since the introduction of professional football in England in 1885, Newton Heath had been losing money steadily, and by 1902, when they were close to £3000 in debt, the creditors moved in.

Luckily for the club, they found a rich benefactor just in time, who saw fit to pay the debts, invest in the team, and help the reformed and renamed "Manchester United" move to a new home. John H Davies overlooked the design and development of Old Trafford as an 80,000 capacity arena, though it was the inspirational Billy Meredith who was the mastermind on the pitch, it was Davies' money that led United to their first honours the league title in 1907, and the FA Cup in 1908.

In 1910, the club moved to Old Trafford, and won the league in their second season at the stadium. Unfortunately, this was to be one of the last honours for several decades, as the club entered a barren spell, and the league was interrupted by the First World War. 1927 was the next significant year for Manchester United: They switched to playing in their famous red shirts permanently, and their benefactor, JH Davies, died. Without Davies' money, and the lack of a decent team, the club became unable to pay the bills, and faced liquidation for a second time in 1931.

This time James Gibson stepped forward with his wallet open. He and club secretary Walter Crinkmer took the club several brave steps forward. Between them they gained Manchester United promotion back to the first division, and set up the first ever youth academy at a league club. Manchester United Junior Athlete Club has since gone on to produce players like Best, Charlton, Beckham, Giggs and Scholes to name but a few of the graduates of the scheme. Perhaps Gibson's best move was getting trains to stop outside Old Trafford on match-days (Previously the fans had to walk miles to the ground).

The Second World War interrupted the development of United. Old Trafford was bombed by the Luftwaffe in 1941, and was not rebuilt until 1949. In the meantime, local rivals Manchester City let United share their stadium. Gibson set about rebuilding the team after the war, but died before he had the chance to see the fruits of his labour when they won the League again in 1951.

When the team of 1952 began to age, new chairman Harold Hardman had a difficult choice to make: He could either spend money to get new players, or he could promote some players from the clubs youth side. Surprisingly, Hardman chose to give youth a chance. It was an inspired decision. The youth players had played together for years and took the first division by storm. Indeed, they could have gained an inaugural League and Cup double in 1957 had their goalkeeper, Ray Wood, not been injured in the FA Cup final. Duncan Edwards was the shining light in a sparkling team which had been dubbed "The Busby Babes" (After manager Matt Busby) due to the teams youthfulness.

The following year, they were again challenging for honours in both the league and cup. They were also in their first ever European Cup. After beating Red Star Belgrade in the quarter finals of the competition, and securing their place in the semi-finals, tragedy struck.

On the way home from Belgrade on February 6th 1958 the plane stopped in Munich for refuelling. On an icy run-way the plane tried and failed to take off twice. On its third attempt, the plane finally went up, but came back down again just a few miles past the end of the run-way, crashing through a house, and bursting into a ball of flames. 23 people died in total, including club captain Roger Byrne and many other players and staff. Some survived the crash but were never able to play football again. Duncan Edwards, who died after fighting for his life in a hospital, was perhaps the most tragic loss. He was arguably the greatest player of his generation, and was destined for greatness for both England and Manchester United. United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, who survived the crash, described Edwards as "The greatest player I ever played with or against".

The whole football world mourned the loss of one of the best teams, and tributes and condolences were sent to Old Trafford from around the globe. Manchester United pulled together to finish the season heroically, with even traditional rivals Liverpool offering United the use of some of their players.

The manager, Matt Busby, who was another survivor of that crash, looked again to youth, and found a squad of able players but not championship winners. He bought a few new names in over the years, and also promoted Bobby Charlton and George Best from the youth team, and, within a decade, United were winning things again.

George Best was able to mesmerise any defence in the world with his ball play, and was named by Pele as one of the greatest players in the history of football. Unfortunately, he also had an ability to drink an astonishing amount of alcohol. He was the first superstar footballer, and introduced a new way of life to the profession, with girls swooning in his arms, designer clothing, and a high media profile. He played his best years at United, but quit at the age of 26, when things got too much for him.

With the triumvirate of Best, Law and Charlton, United were almost invincible. They won various league titles and domestic cups, but, most importantly, the European Cup in 1968. Best scored the winner in extra-time at Wembley as United won 3-1 in their most important game in their 90 year history.

When Matt Busby, who was later knighted, retired in 1968, United were in a promising position. They failed to capitalise on that, as manager after manager came into the club, struggled to get the right results, and got sacked by an over-zealous board desperate for more European glory.

The years rolled by, with United even getting relegated in 1977. In 1986 Alex Ferguson got hired as manager by then-chairman Martin Edwards. Ferguson had a rough start to his Old Trafford career, but was given time to work his magic at building a match-winning team. His team won the FA Cup in 1990, and, 26 years after they had last won it, the League championship in 1993 in its first year as "The FA Premier League".

United have since gone on to win eight of the last eleven League championships a phenomenal record as well as various cup successes. Ferguson built his early teams around the United legends of Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. Ferguson was also busy reinvigorating the youth training system, so that, for years to come, United would be a successful club.

Slowly bringing them up to the first team, "Fergie's Fledglings" showed that youthfulness and skill can be more than enough to beat experienced players. The youngsters such as Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, Butt and the Neville brothers fitted seamlessly into the first team, and continued the clubs winning ways in the League. They were also gaining experience in European competition particularly in the European Cup, or, as it was re-branded, the European Champions League.

In 1999, Ferguson's team made it into the final of the Champions League with an enthralling victory over mighty Juventus. They played against German team Bayern Munich in the final. They were a goal down with minutes to go when they received a corner. Ferguson took his chance to substitute two strikers on for defenders in the hope of scoring to take the game to extra-time. Sheringham scored the equaliser as hoped, and then Solskjaer struck to make it 2-1 with only 30 seconds left. Winning the Champions League completed an extraordinary treble, with the Premier League title the FA Cup also being taken by United in 1999.

Ferguson has since over-seen the sale of several prize assets as he looks to introduce yet another generation of youngsters, (including Tim Howard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Djemba-Djemba), into the first team in the hope of building another team capable of lifting the Champions League trophy.

When Peter Kenyon was chosen to lead the revolution at Chelsea, and he accepted, Manchester United were left looking for another business mided individual to take the club even further. David Gill, Kenyon's understudy, fitted the bill, and took the job. Kenyon was lauded by fans because he had always claimed that he was a loyal Man United fan and his support had been so easily bought. Assistant manager Carlos Queiroz was also poached - by Real Madrid.

Without Kenyon and Carlos, United struggled to win a trophy. Kenyon took with him his knowledge of the clubs transfer targets, and Arjen Robben was snatched from under United's noses.

Carlos Queiroz has since returned to the club after a disasterous season with Real, and United have bought wisely - Alan Smith will be yet another superstar in a red shirt, whilst Wayne Rooney arrived for a record-breaking £27m.

United's season got off to a bad start, with Rio still suspended for missing his drug-test, and the campaign finally got going in January, with a massive win over Arsenal, only for United to return to their stuttering ways.

The FA Cup Final brought hope of a trophy, but that was ruined by far-from clinical finishing, with United dominating but failing to capitalise. The lucky gunners won on penalties.

2005 was dominated by takeover talks. With United listed on the stock-exchange anyonecould buy a piece of the,. First Magnier and McManus (scum) bought up a 30% share to spite Fergie, then they sold out to American Malcolm Glazer - a man only keen to make money out of the club.

Hopefully United's legacy will continue under their reign.

The main symptom of a panic attack is an overwhelming feeling of fear or anxiety, along with physical reactions. The symptoms come on suddenly, often unexpectedly, and the intensity usually peaks within 10 minutes. Although most symptoms fade within 30 minutes, it may take up to an hour for all the symptoms to go away completely. It is possible to have one panic attack after another in waves for an extended period of time, and it can seem like one continuous attack. However, if you have continuous symptoms that do not go away within an hour, you probably are not having a panic attack and you should seek immediate medical care.

Symptoms of a panic attack may include:3

* Rapid breathing (hyperventilation), shortness of breath, or feeling "smothered."
* A pounding or racing heart or an irregular heartbeat.
* Chest pain.
* Lightheadedness.
* Sweating.
* A choking feeling.
* Nausea or an upset stomach.
* Dizziness, shaking, or trembling.
* Numbness or tingling.
* Chills or hot flashes.
* Fear that you are going to die, lose control, or "go crazy."
* Feelings of being detached from yourself or from reality.

Panic attacks can begin with a stressful event or appear without cause. They also can be associated with medications, such as heart medications, and medical conditions, such as an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism).

Panic attacks may begin without a trigger or can be linked to certain situations, such as being in large crowds of people in restaurants or stadiums. Sometimes just the anticipation of being in a certain situation can cause severe anxiety. People who experience panic attacks often learn to avoid situations that they fear will trigger a panic attack or situations where they will not be able to escape easily if an attack occurs. If this pattern of avoidance and anxiety is severe, it can become agoraphobia.

The symptoms of a panic attack can be similar to those of a heart attack. Many people seek emergency medical treatment for a panic attack for this reason. If you have chest pain and other symptoms of a heart attack, seek immediate medical treatment. For more information, see the topic Chest Pain.

Panic attacks are not common in children or younger teens. But children who have panic disorder or panic attacks often have other symptoms in addition to those listed above. They may be overly afraid of common objects such as bugs, or worry excessively about monsters or about going to bed alone. They also may refuse to go to school or become unusually upset when they are separated from a parent.

Not everyone who experiences panic attacks develops panic disorder. A person is diagnosed with panic disorder if he or she has at least two unexpected panic attacks along with fear or worry about having another panic attack and avoiding situations that may trigger it

Low self-esteem can negatively affect virtually every part of your life, including your relationships, your job and your health. But you can raise your self-esteem to a healthy level, even if you're an adult who's been harboring a negative self-image since childhood.

Changing the way you think about yourself and your life is essential to boosting self-esteem. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) techniques are especially helpful in changing unhealthy thinking and behavior patterns. These techniques are based on the idea that your feelings and behavior result from how you think about yourself and your life. CBT techniques can help you recognize, challenge and ultimately replace negative thoughts or inaccurate beliefs with more positive, realistic ones.

These five steps toward healthy self-esteem are based on cognitive behavior therapy principles. As you go through these five steps, jotting down your thoughts, experiences and observations in a journal or daily record may help you use these steps more effectively.
Step 1: Identify troubling conditions or situations

Think about what conditions or situations about your life you find troubling and that seem to deflate your self-esteem. You may wish to change aspects of your personality or behavior, such as a fear of giving a business presentation, frequently becoming angry or always expecting the worst. You may be struggling with depression, a disability or a change in life circumstances, such as the death of a loved one, a lost promotion or children leaving home. Or you may wish to improve your relationship with another person, such as a spouse, family member or co-worker.
Step 2: Become aware of beliefs and thoughts

Once you've identified troubling conditions or situations, pay attention to your thoughts related to them. This includes your self-talk — what you tell yourself — as well as your interpretation of what a situation means and your beliefs about yourself, other people and events. Your thoughts and beliefs may be positive, negative or neutral. They may be rational — based on reason or facts — or irrational — based on false ideas.
Step 3: Pinpoint negative or inaccurate thinking

Your beliefs and thoughts about a condition or situation affect your reaction to it. Inaccurate or negative thoughts and beliefs about something or someone can trigger unhealthy physical, emotional and behavioral responses, including:

* Physical responses, such as a stiff neck, sore back, racing heart, stomach problems, sweating or change in sleeping patterns.
* Emotional responses, such as difficulty concentrating or feeling depressed, angry, sad, nervous, guilty or worried.
* Behavioral responses, such as eating when not hungry, avoiding tasks, working more than usual, spending increased time alone, obsessing about a situation or blaming others for your problems.

Step 4: Challenge negative or inaccurate thinking

Your initial thoughts may not be the only possible way to view a situation. So test the accuracy of your thoughts. Ask yourself whether your view of a situation is consistent with facts and logic or whether there might be other explanations.

You may not easily recognize inaccuracies in your thinking. Most people have automatic, long-standing ways of thinking about their lives and themselves. These long-held thoughts and beliefs feel normal and factual to you, but many are simply opinions or perceptions.

These kinds of thought patterns tend to erode self-esteem:

* All-or-nothing thinking. You see things as either all good or all bad. For example, "If I don't succeed in this job, I'm a total failure."
* Mental filtering. You see only negatives and dwell on them, distorting your view of a person or situation or your entire life. For example, "I made a mistake on that report and now everyone will realize I'm a failure."
* Converting positives into negatives. You reject your achievements and other positive experiences by insisting that they don't count. For example, "My date only gave me that compliment because he knows how bad I feel." "I only did well on that test because it was so easy."
* Jumping to negative conclusions. You reach a negative conclusion when little or no evidence supports it. For example, "My friend hasn't replied to my e-mail, so I must have done something to make her angry."
* Mistaking feelings for facts. You confuse feelings or beliefs with facts. For example, "I feel like a failure, so I must be a failure." No matter how strong a feeling is, it isn't a fact.
* Self put-downs. You undervalue yourself, put yourself down or use self-deprecating humor. This can result from overreacting to a situation, such as making a mistake. For example, "I don't deserve anything better." "I'm weak, stupid or ugly."

Step 5: Change your thoughts and beliefs

The final step is to replace the negative or inaccurate thinking you've identified with accurate thoughts and beliefs. This can enable you to find constructive ways to cope and give your self-esteem a boost.

This step can be difficult. Thoughts often occur spontaneously or automatically, without effort on your part. It can be hard to control or turn off your thoughts. Thoughts can be very powerful and aren't always based on logic. It takes time and effort to learn how to recognize and replace distressing thoughts with accurate ones.

These strategies may help you approach situations in a healthy way:

* Use hopeful statements. Be kind and encouraging to yourself. Pessimism can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. That is, if you think your presentation isn't going to go well, you may indeed stumble through it. Try telling yourself things such as, "Even though it's tough, I can handle this situation."
* Forgive yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. Mistakes aren't permanent reflections on you as a person. They are isolated moments in time. Tell yourself, "I made a mistake but that doesn't make me a bad person."
* Avoid 'should' and 'must' statements. If you find that your thoughts are full of these words, you may be setting unreasonable demands on yourself — or others. Removing these words from your self-talk can give you and others more realistic expectations.
* Focus on the positive. Think about the good parts of your life. Ask yourself, "What other things have gone well recently?" "What personal skills do I have that have helped me cope with challenging situations in the past?"
* Relabel upsetting thoughts. Having negative thoughts doesn't mean you must choose to react negatively. Instead, think of them as signals to use new, healthy thinking patterns. Ask yourself, "Which of my strengths can help me respond in a constructive way?" "What can I think and do to make this less stressful?"
* Encourage yourself. Give yourself credit for making positive changes. Treat yourself as well as you'd treat a loved one. Tell yourself, "I did a good job on the presentation. It may not have been perfect, but my colleagues said it was good."

Holy Spirit

The Descent of the Holy Spirit in a 15th century illuminated manuscript. Musee Conde,Chantilly. The Holy Spirit is depicted as a dove in the topmost area of painting.
In mainstream Christianity, the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is one of the three entities of the Holy Trinity which make up the single substance of God ; that is, the Spirit is considered to act in concert with and share an essential nature with God the Father and God the Son. The Christian theology of the Holy Spirit, or pneumatology, was the last piece of Trinitarian theology to be fully explored and developed. For this reason, there is greater theological diversity among Christian understandings of the Spirit than there is among understandings of the Son and of the Father. Within Trinitarian theology, the Holy Spirit is sometimes referred to as the "Third Person" of the Triune God - with the Father being the First Person and the Son the Second Person. There are also distinct understandings of the Holy Spirit by non-Trinitarian groups and some non-Christian groups who use the term as well.

"Better to reign in hell than to serve in heaven",by John Milton

I was intrigued by this English poet quote in his book's "Paradise Lost".For me it has deep meaning to it.

Did he literally mean it?Is it better to go to hell and become a ruler in hell instead of going to heaven???!.No, i don't think so.Hell is hell. There are no point of creating hell if degenerate human being don't suffer in hell, right?

But i think this qoute is quite true in real life.

Across the world, countries in Africa continent such as Sierra Leone and Liberia ,there is civil war going on.Their people live in constant fear because of violence and atrocities commited by all combatants. You might say that places is hell on earth.

Those who reign in that kind of places is definitely have a decent living compare to their countrymen.Warlords in conflict zone will be able to secure themselves and their family food, shelter and protection because they have power to do so.

What about those who live in poverty in 'heaven'?? such as..let say Malaysia.Did their life is better than those dictators and bloodthirsty warlords in conflict zones?actually no.They are struggling to feed themselves.

So what John Milton is trying to say is,to be on top of society is always good no matter where they are. That is my opinion.

The Winner is.. Sony

It’s official. BluRay, championed by Sony, has won the high definition DVD format war against key rival HD DVD, championed by Toshiba. Today, Toshiba gave up the fight and declared that the company is shutting down the HD DVD business. Less than 12 months ago, HD DVD appeared to be the winning horse when Microsoft’s XBOX 360 pledged alliance to HD DVD and Toshiba slashed the price of its HD DVD price.
However, Sony who lost the VHS vs Beta war twenty years ago apparently has learnt its lessons. “Content, content, content” must be the mantra playing in the head of Chubachi San (Sony President). True enough, the defection of Time Warner’s Warner Bros to the Blu-Ray camp last month proved to be the clincher and followed by US key retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc, Best Buy Co Inc and online video rental company Netflix Inc.

Fans website takes over Conference club

20,000 football fans from all over the world opened their emails on Tuesday morning to discover that they were the proud owners of a football club.

More Stories
The team is Conference side Ebbsfleet United and the community of new owners has been built up on a unique website called myfootball.co.uk
The website was set up with the stated aim of taking over a football club and allowing the members of the site to vote on team selection, player transfers and on all major club decisions.
Within 11 weeks, 20,000 fans had stumped up the £35 membership fee, raising over £700,000 for a takeover bid.
The "MyFootballClub Trust" was approached by nine football club owners and also approached several others themselves, before finally deciding on Kent club Ebbsfleet United, who currently lie ninth in the Conference, which leaves them in contention for promotion to the Football League this season.
The side, managed by former Republic of Ireland international Liam Daish, often struggle to draw crowds of 1,000 but now have a whole new fan-base to call their own.
The deal is expected to be completed in a few weeks after a due diligence process and the website will purchase a 51% controlling stake, while also having the option to buy the club outright in the future.
The initial down payment is said to be quite small, which will open up funds to the club in the January transfer window, with the MyFootballClub website members voting on potential transfer targets.
Daish has seen his title changed from manager to head coach. His new job will be to "brief members".
This will include a review of the previous match, reports from the training ground and views on the forthcoming opposition. He will also give his thoughts on players, their form and fitness, as well as possible selections and tactics.
Members will then submit their preferred 11, formation and tactics. A database will calculate the most popular choice. This will be handed to Daish to instigate
However, despite the fact that team selection has now been taken out of his hands, Daish says he is in complete support of the takeover.
"Everyone has worked wonders to get this club in the top half of the Conference. We all agree the club needs something extra to take it to the next step," he said.
"As a football fan, I think the MyFootballClub idea is fantastic. And as the coach, I'm look forward to the challenge of working with thousands of members to produce a winning team.
"Picking elevens and formations isn't a precise science, and luck often plays its part. I believe a strong dressing room and 11 who want to perform are just as important. And I'll continue to make sure that happens.
"During and after matches, Ebbsfleet supporters often give me their opinion on which players should or shouldn't start games. Now they can have their say."
Club chairman Jason Botley echoed Daish's opinion that the move will help the club move to the next level.
"The Board, Liam Daish and his coaching staff, club employees and myself are united in believing this is a great opportunity for Ebbsfleet United. This extra finance and support will enable our club to progress," he said.
Up until now, members of the website have had no idea about which clubs they were negotiating with, but the news that Ebbsfleet United have signed up to the project is expected to lead to an influx of new members which will help swell the clubs coffers even further.
"Nine football clubs approached MyFootballClub and we believe that Ebbsfleet United is the perfect choice," said Will Brooks, one of founding members of the website.
"We hope that MyFootballClub members and Ebbsfleet United supporters will join forces and make the football club more sustainable and successful."

Diwali (or Deepavali) is a major Hindu holiday, and a significant festival in Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, and Jainism. [3] Many legends are associated with Diwali. Today it is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs across the globe as the "Festival of Lights," where the lights or lamps signify victory of good over the evil within every human being. Diwali is celebrated on the new moon day (approx fifteenth day) of the month Kartika.[4]

In many parts of India and Nepal , it is the homecoming of Lord Ram of Ayodhya, after a 14-year exile in the forest, after he defeated the evil and demonic Ravan.[5] The people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Ram by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (deepa), thus its name: Deepavali. This word, in due course, became Diwali in Hindi and Dipawali in Nepali. But, in South and East Indian languages, the word did not undergo any change, and hence the festival is called Deepavali in eastern and southern part of India. There are many different observances of the holiday across India and Nepal.

Jainism marks Diwali as the nirvana of Lord Mahavira, which occurred on 15 October, 527 BCE.

Among the Sikhs, Diwali came to have special significance from the day the town of Amritsar was illuminated on the return to it of Guru Hargobind (1595-1644) who had been held captive in the Fort at Gwalior under the orders of the Mughal emperor, Jahangir (1570-1627). As the sixth Guru (teacher) of Sikhism, Guru Hargobind Ji, was freed from imprisonment - along with 53 Hindu Kings (who were held as political prisoners) whom the Guru had arranged to be released as well. here is about one of Malaysian's major celebrated festival.

After his release he went to the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in the holy city of Amritsar, where he was welcomed in happiness by the people who lit candles and diyas to greet the Guru. Because of this, Sikhs often refer to Diwali also as Bandi Chhorh Divas - "the day of release of detainees."

The festival is also celebrated by Buddhists of Nepal, where majority of Hindu lives, particularly the Newar Buddhists.

In India and Nepal, Diwali is now considered to be a national festival, and the aesthetic aspect of the festival is enjoyed by most Indians and Nepalese regardless of faith.

November 18, 1962: Kirk Hammett is born in San Francisco, California

March 4, 1963: Jason Newsted, Cliff's replacement, is born in Battle Creek, Michigan

In 1973 Lars, at age 9, goes to his first concert, when Deep Purple played in Copenhagen. He enjoys the concert so much he starts to collect albums by Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy. Later he discovers the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). He then discovers bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Sweet Savage and Diamond Head, which influenced his musical direction. It was Late 1976 when Lars got his first drum kit from his Grandparents.

In 1980 Lars Ulrich, now 17 flew to Britain to see Diamond Head, his favorite band play. He meet the singer Sean Harris and lived with the band for a month. He soon learned about the band Mercyful Fate, another band in the NWOBHM. Lars returned to Los Angeles to try and make his own NWOBHM band.

Metallica

The band Metallica was formed on October 15 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. Starting at the very beginning on February 10 1962 Cliff Burton was born. On November 18 of the same year Kirk Hammett was born. On March 4 1963 Jason Newstead was born. On August 3 James Hetfield was born and on December 26 Lars Ulrich was born. These are the main members in the band Metallica.

It was 1977 when Jason Newstead formed his first band Diamond with Kevin Kendrick, Todd Smiedendorf and Tom Depoy in Niles, Michigan U.S.A. it was also in this year that the Newstead family relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan. In the September of this year James Hetfield started his first year at Downey high school and befriended Ron Mcgovney who would latter become the first bassist in Metallica.

In 1978 James Hetfield joined his first band Obsession with Jim Arnold, Rich and Ron Veloz. 1979 was the year when James's mother passed away and this led to the family relocating to L.A California.

James formed a band called Phantom Lord in 1980 - 1981 with Jim Mulligan and Hugh Tanner. It was also in this year that James first got together with Lars Ulrich. This happened after replying to an advert in local paper the Recycler where Lars was advertising to find like minded musicians. This lead to the infamous falling cymbal and bad playing experiences. James felt that he couldn't play with Lars at his current skill level.

Ron Mcgovney joined Phantom Lord which renamed to Leather Charm but the band fell apart when the drummer and guitarist left. It was in this year that Lars persuaded friend Brian Slagel to include a band he could get together to have a slot on a heavy metal compilation LP that he was producing. Lars approached James with the idea of forming a band but this time with the offer of getting a song onto a record which would become the "Metal Massacre L.P".

The band METALLICA is formed on October 15 1981.

On October 31 Jason Newstead and Tom Hamlin relocate to Phoenix Arizona from Kalamazoo, MI.

1982 was the year in which Metallica really took off by the end of the year they would have played their first headlining gig, changed their bass player, recorded four demo tapes and had their first appearance on an official record (Metal Massacre).

The first demo that Metallica produced was recorded in January of 1982 it was a one track demo of Hit the Lights Lloyd Grant overdubbed the guitar solo. In March the band recorded their second demo it was a three track demo one original song, the second version of hit the lights and 2 cover songs killing Time / Let It Loose. The band recorded this demo so that they could get the opening slot with Saxon at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go in California.

It was on March 14 that Metallica played there first gig at radio city Anaheim in California. The demo that the band recorded proved to be worthwhile as they got the slot opening for Saxon and played there on March 28.

In April Metallica recorded their third demo tape untitled but later to be called "The Power Metal Demos" this demo tape was four original songs the 3rd version of Hit The Lights, The Mechanix, Jump In The Fire and Motorbreath.

Metallica's only appearance as a 5 piece happened on April 23 with Damien Phillips (aka Jeff Warner). James did not want to have to sing and play guitar so the band were looking for a vocalist. James Hetfield played his first gig on rhythm guitar on May 25 at Lars High school at Back Bay Costa Mesa California. It was at this point that Dave Mustaine joined the band he came to replace Lloyd Grant and played lead guitar, the joining with Dave Mustaine brought the band allot more equipment which they needed at that time.

It was on June 14 that the Metal Massacre LP was released it was Metallica's first appearance on an official record the first release of the LP contained a few mistakes though the bands name was miss spelt Mettallica and Lloyd grants name was misspelled as Loydd Grant. Brian Slagel did not have the money to reprint the sleeves and they had to stay as the were.

July 6 marked the start of the recording of the No Life Til Leather demo tape which contained the songs Hit The Lights (version 4), Seek And Destroy, Motorbreath (version 2), The Mechanix (version 2), Jump In The Fire (version 2), Metal Militia and Phantom Lord. This demo was funded by High Velocity Records

Metallica played their first San Francisco gig at the Keystone on September 18. On November 11 the band played at the Woodstock in Los Angeles supporting Y&T but it was on November 29 that Metallica played their first headlining show in San Francisco with Kirk Hammett's band Exodus opening for them. Ron Mcgovney played his last gig with Metallica on November 30 it was at Mabukay Gardens in San Francisco. It was only on December 10 that Metallica and Ron Mcgovney parted company though.

December 28 1982 was the day when Cliff Burton joined Metallica after persuading them to relocate to San Francisco, this was Cliff's deal for joining the band. This led to Metallica musically reaching a stage they may not have reached if Cliff had not joined the band his influence was immediately noticeable.

1983 was the year that Metallica really made an impact. They moved to San Francisco during February and played their first show on March 5 at the Stone a now legendary venue for Metallica. Kirk Hammett's band Exodus opened for them on what was to be Cliff Burtons first gig with Metallica. It was on the move from LA to SF that the band got a little bit, too personal a view into Dave Mustaines life style. It was decided as soon as they reached SF that they needed to have a new guitarist they already knew Kirk Hammett and it was decided to replace Dave with Kirk. On April 1 Kirk Hammett was asked to join the band. Dave Mustaine played his last gig with Metallica on April 9. It was only on April 11 that the band actually told Dave he was out of the band and gave him a coach ticket back home to LA.

(A PHOTO TAKEN AROUND 1983 WITH JAMES HETFIELD, KIRK HAMMETT, LARS ULRICH AND CLIFF BURTON)

Kirk Hammett played his first gig with Metallica on April 16 in Dover New Jersey. Another very important reason for Metallica's relocation to SF was the work of a record shop owner called John Zazula, John put the band up when they moved to SF in the beginning, they paid their rent by the sale of the No Life Til Leather demo tape through John's shop. John also at this time had a record label called Megaforce records. Metallica signed to this record label it was their first contracted record label. Only days later on May 10 Metallica started work on their first album later to be titled Kill Em' All (after the people who wouldn't let the album be called Metal Up Your Ass with the picture of a hand holding a knife coming out of a toilet bowl on the cover). the recording of Kill Em' All was finished on May 27.

Metallica start their Kill em' all for one tour with Raven two months later on July 27 the tour went on until September 3. The band then had a short break until they started recording demos for their second album on September 24 which was to be later titled "Ride the Lightning". It was during these sessions that the band recorded the fake live tracks of Phantom Lord and Seek and Destroy which appear as B Sides on the Jump in the Fire single (European release) and Whiplash (USA release). These were the bands first singles they released.

It was around September of 1983 that Jason Newstead formed the band Dogz with Kelly Davidson and when Erik AK joined the band changed their name to Flotsome and Jetsome. This remained Jason's band until he joined Metallica.

Jump in the Fire was released on January 10 1984 the day after the band had there equipment stolen in Boston Ma. It was this event which led to the inspiration for Fade to Black.

Metallica's first European tour started on February 3 with Venom in Zurich Switzerland the tour continued through until February 12th. It was on February 20 after this tour that the band went into the studio to begin recording their second album "Ride the Lightning" at sweet silence studios in Copenhagen Denmark it was to be the first of three albums engineered by Flemming Rasmussen. They finished recording the album on March 14. Once the album had been finished it led to more live shows but a particularly famous one on March 27th at the Marquee Club in London, it was to be Metallica's first appearance in the UK.

Twisted Sister joined Metallica for their second European tour which started on June 6 and lasted until June 10th . It was soon after this tour that Metallica had their first meeting with future manager and future record label Chris Burnstein from Q Prime, this happened on august 1 1984. Metallica let the old manager Jon Zazula go on the August 2. It was also around this time that Metallica were also talking to Bronze record label.

Metallica signed with Elektra records on September 12 this became the bands American record label. Elektra records promptly re-released Ride the Lightning on November 16. Creeping Death EP is released on November 23 with 2 cover songs on the B-Side Am I Evil? by Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg by Blitzkrieg this was to coincide with their first major European tour which started with Tank on November 18. The night before the tour started the band played Trapped Under Ice live for the first time in Paris France. Nearly a month later they played there first headlining show in the UK at the Lyceum Ballroom in London England it was the last show of the European Ride The Lightning tour.

At the beginning of January 1985 with only a two week break Metallica start their USA co head lining tour with W.A.S.P., with Ammored Saint supporting to promote Ride The Lightning. It was on this tour when Fade To Black was played live for the first time in Chicago on February 9. On March the 9 Ride The Lightning peaked in the USA charts at number 100, nine days later the tour ended in Portland Or. Metallica's now legendary performance at the infamous Monsters of Rock festival in England happened on August 17 when the band appeared between Ratt and Bon Jovi in front of 70,000 people. A week later they performed in front of 90,000 people in Oakland, California at the Day On The Green festival.

The recording of Master Of Puppets the bands third album started on September 2 again at the Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen with producer Flemming Rasmussen. During this period the band took time out to play two major festivals the first was the Metal Hammer festival in England on September 14 this was the show where Disposable Heroes was first played live. The second was the Day On The Green festival in Oakland Ca.

Master Of Puppets was finally completed on December 27 1985. They played their last show on December 31 at the Civic Center in San Francisco with Megadeath, Exodus and Metal Church.

Napster is still in its relative infancy, but the technology has managed to nestle itself at the center of a media storm (and to raised the ire of the music) during its brief life span. "Metallica is suing Napster because we felt that someone had to address this important artistic issue, and we have always been known for taking a leadership role in the fight for artist¹s rights. We were the first band to sue our record company, Time Warner, for the right to control our future. Rather than allowing the record company or any other corporation to own our recordings and compositions, we chose to fight for (and eventually win) control of our music.

This issue is no different. Why is it all of a sudden okay to get music for free? Why should music be free, when it costs artists money to record and produce it?"

STATEMENT FROM THE MEMBERS OF METALLICA
Metallica regrets to announce that after 14 years as Metallica's bass player, Jason Newsted has chosen to leave the band.

Jason Newsted: "Due to private and personal reasons, and the physical damage that I have done to myself over the years while playing the music that I love, I must step away from the band. This is the most difficult decision of my life, made in the best interest of my family, myself, and the continued growth of Metallica. I extend my love, thanks, and best wishes to my brothers: James, Lars, and Kirk and the rest of the Metallica family, friends, and fans whom have made these years so unforgettable."

Newsted joined Metallica from Flotsam And Jetsam in the fall of 1986 after the tragic death of bassist Cliff Burton. He participated in the recording of 6 Metallica albums (...And Justice For All, Metallica, Load, Re-Load, Garage Inc., and S&M), which have sold over 55 million copies worldwide to date. In addition, he played on numerous worldwide tours to millions of fans representing over 1000 gigs in all. While with Metallica, the band won countless awards including 5 Grammy Awards and 2 MTV Video Music Awards.

James Hetfield: "Playing with someone who has such unbridled passion for music will forever be a huge inspiration. On stage every night, he was a driving force to us all, fans and band alike. His connection will never be broken."

Lars Ulrich: "We part ways with Jason with more love, more mutual respect, and more understanding of each other than at any other point in the past. James, Kirk and I look forward to embracing the next chapter of Metallica with both a huge amount of appreciation for the last 14 years with Jason and the excitement of rising to the challenges that lay ahead to make Metallica shine brighter than ever."

In the spring, Metallica will begin writing and recording a new studio album with release sometime in late 2001 or early 2002.

Kirk Hammett: "Jason is our brother. He will be missed."

February 1, 2001: "Who want to be a millionaire" TV program with Lars Ulrich is recorded at ABC TV's studios. This was an all-star episode of the game show and each celebrity picked a charity to donate the money to, and they were guaranteed $32,000 even if they never hit the seat. Lars got out on the $64,000 question, about a comedy act, but still won $32,000 which he gave to a hospital for homeless in San Francisco. The show was broadcasted on the 11th of February

February 11, 2001: MacFarlane Toys is showing the Metallica action figures to the public for the first time at the Manhattan's Toy Fair. The models are based on the band during And justice for all.

February 11, 2001: James and Lars showed up Sunday night at the Cactus Club in downtown San Jose to watch friends and former tour mates, Corrosion of Conformity perform. Since C.O.C hasn't performed in a few years in Bay area it was no surprise to see James, a long time fan of the band, in attendance. About halfway through the set Hetfield got up on stage and played a song with them.

June 4, 2002: James, Lars, Kirk, and Metallica's producer for the last few albums, Bob Rock, put on a show in a club called Kimo's in San Francisco. They performed under the name Spun and they played four Ramones songs:Commando, Today Your Love Tomorrow The World, 53rd and 3rd, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue. After the tribute songs, the band went into Hit the Lights, Leper Messiah, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and then A NEW SONG!. The band then played I Disappear and ended with Die, Die My Darling.

The band realized there was much work to be done on both their personal and creative relationships, and spent the first part of 2001 investigating spontaneous avenues of discovery both in and out of the studio. They set up shop at an old ex-Army barracks called The Presidio, jammed together at length and made a decision not to rush the process of finding a new band member, opting instead to have producer Bob Rock do all bass parts.

In the middle of 2001, James Hetfield reached a place in his life where he felt rehabilitation, rest and re-focus were necessary for him to not only continue but also flourish. It meant that for many months, the members of Metallica embarked upon various levels of deeper discovery about themselves, the band and their lives both as a band and human beings. The results were to manifest themselves two-fold: when they came together again in the Spring of 2002 there was a deeper respect and appreciation for each other than ever before. And they were finally ready to make a new album, free of outside expectations, free of inner expectations and independent of anyone.

Settling into their new HQ, the band set about making 'St Anger' with Bob Rock. Those early Presidio sessions had certainly helped shape the freeform thinking and expression that was to come, but no-one, least of all the guys themselves, could've known just how fierce, raw and passionate the 'St Anger' material would turn out to be. With Rock always offering prompt and support, lyrics were written by everyone, writing was shared and performance was off the cuff, spontaneous and a 180 degree turn from the months of cut-and-paste which had become a part of the Metallirecording process in the past.

This Metallica was proud, confident, appreciative, humble, hungry, edgy, angry and also happy. Nervous? Sure, a little bit, but that too was good, yet another driver to new places and creative achievements that Metallica were enjoying.

It was in the Fall of 2002 that the band decided it was time to search for a new bassist, and after some closed auditions with personal invitees over a few months, ex-Suicidal Tendencies/Ozzy Osbourne bass player Robert Trujillo was chosen to be the new member of Metallica. Note, member. Not bassist or hired gun or replacement. But a band member. His whole demeanor, happy, relaxed, warm, enthusiastic blended with over 15 years of experience and a ferocious finger-picking style made Robert the only natural choice.

And so it is that as you read this, 'St Anger' has been completed, expectations are reaching heights that even the band cannot believe and there is the excitement of the first proper tour since Summer Sanitarium 2000. Looking at them, listening to them and seeing them, Lars, Kirk, Robert and James look like excited, eager children, men who cannot wait to be let out of then house to go and wreak aural havoc. Why? Because they can't! Metallica are about to hit a whole new level...
